Big Hitters Land in the UK

By: Golf Shake | Tue 03 Jun 2014

Heathfield Park LDETThe Long Drivers European Tour (LDET) arrives for the first time in England this week at the Heathfield Park Golf Driving Range near Oxford with high expectations in what is the second season of the European circuit - plus amateurs are being given the opportunity to 'try out'.

The competition takes place on Friday 6th and Saturday 7th of June and has attracted the best European hitters including; Joe Miller (UK, 2013 LDET Champion and 2010 World Champion), CJ Hellstrom (SWE), Dan Konyk (UK), Eric Houballah (FRA, European Senior Champion), and John McSloy (SCO), amongst others.

The UK LDET CHAMPIONSHIP provides the opportunity to see how far the professional big hitters can hit the ball with all the players regularly hitting past 300 yards.  This is also a serious sport with the first season in 2013 won by the UKs Joe Miller who is in a strong position ahead of competing on UK soil this week.

"I’m training three to four hours a day, six days a week. I take it very seriously and I enjoy the challenge to prepare and improve my long drive” explained Miller who has won the first two events of this season.

Official Sponsors of LDET

16 players will contest the second round qualifiers, in which each player will hit six balls (the best of three sets), the distance of the longest ball within the boundaries will be the one that counts. The best 8 will go through to the quarter finals, then the semifinals and finals.

Venue and Tournament Schedule

The event takes place this weekend at Heathfield Park golf complex which provides an the outfield that extends over 400 yards.  Amateurs are invited to 'try out' in the event taking place on Friday. Admission for the general public is free.

On Friday 6th, players will have the opportunity to make their first drives from the competition tee. During the afternoon, the amateur players will play the qualifying heats with the quarter finals at 6pm.

Saturday 7th will be the big day of UK LDET CHAMPIONSHIP. The show will start at 9.00am with the professionals competing and progressing for the stages.
