Miller Makes History Again on Iconic Brabazon 10th

By: Golf Shake | Fri 31 Aug 2012

Long Drive sensation Joe Miller made history again at The Belfry when he became the first British golfer [update below] to drive the iconic 300-yard Brabazon 10th hole with a putter during a bonanza of golf at the four-time Ryder Cup venue on Bank Holiday Monday (27 August).

With the Sky Sports cameras rolling and large groups of spectators from the Today’s Golfer Demo Day watching on, the Callaway Ambassador achieved what no man has done before by using his Odyssey 2-ball putter to green the famous 10th – a hole that has seen so many famous golfing moments, including the first tee shot to hit the green by Seve Ballesteros in 1978 and Rory McIlroy’s first hit as a professional in 2007.

“It’s a real honour to add another chapter of history to the spectacular 10th hole at The Belfry,” said Miller. “The atmosphere around the tee was fantastic and the whole Demo Day was a brilliantly organised event.”

Hundreds of golfers took part in the Today’s Golfer Demo Day inside The Belfry’s PGA National Golf Academy, where the main attractions included a clinic from European Tour player Graeme Storm and free custom-fittings from six of the world’s top golf manufacturers throughout the day.

“The Today’s Golfer Demo Day was an even greater success than when it debuted last year,” said The Belfry’s Director of Golf Gary Silcock. “It was brilliant to see just how many of the magazine’s readers – young and old – came to try out the latest clubs in the driving range bays and launch monitor rooms.

Golfers were able to see at first hand exactly how custom-fitting and tuition can improve their game and we hope they were able to take away some valuable advice for the remainder of the season,” added Silcock.

The Belfry’s PGA National Golf Academy is Europe’s largest dedicated custom-fitting venue and contains the latest launch monitors used by the top professional players to tailor equipment to their exact requirements. Earlier this year, The Belfry reported a 10% increase in the number of golfers who had been custom-fitted in its Academy.

Update: Joe Miller was the first player to drive The Brabazon’s 10th hole with a putter since Canadian Jason Zuback, who achieved the feat prior to the start of the Benson and Hedges International Open in 1999.
