Golfshake.com Open SE Qual - results

The first event in the Golfshake.com Open 2009 took place on Sunday 10th May at Mardyke Valley in Essex and saw 36 golfers battle it out for a spot in the Golfshake.com Open.

Organised by Colin Astbury the field saw a wide range of golfers and nationalities with players from Scotland, France, Wales, New Zealand, America, Ireland and England competing for the final.

Once again the weather was great, the sun shone and the golfers taking part took the opportunity to meet some new golfers and play in a social but competitive event.

The results were fairly close with 16 players separated by only 5 stableford points.  The winning spot was taken by a long time golfshake.com member and previous event attendee Andy Kenyon (28) with 35 points but won on countback with 2 other players also scoring 35 points.  Amazingly Andy was also uploading photos from the day via Twitter whilst playing, hopefully using his mobile on the course didn't put off his playing partners !!

Anthony Kempsell (21) and Diane Joyce (16) also came in with 35 points, followed by Jan Burrows (18) 34 points, David Roth (17) 33 points and then Alfred Pickard (8) with the lowest score of 82 and 32 points.

Golfbreaks.com sponsored longest drive went to Nicolas Michel, Golfshake.com sponsored nearest the pin to Jack North. The winner of the www.gtour.co.uk sponsored prize (trendy golf vouchers) for best dressed golfer was Paul Edwards as judged by the delightful Chloe North (daughter of Jack above).

Martin Andrews also received a free swing check from the guys at the Swing Zone for coming in with only 10 points. All entrants will also be receiving a video of their swing courtesy of the SwingZone.

The golfshake.com Open is an exciting new feature on the golfshake.com events calendar and sees members take part in member organised regional qualifying events throughout the country.  The top placed players from 2 handicap categories will qualify and gain FREE entry into the final taking place on the 19th September at Wychwood Park in Cheshire.

As well as the obvious bragging rights of playing for the best region and winning the overall event, we have also got together an exciting prize pack which consists of:

• 3 night break at a De Vere Luxury Lodge of up to 6 people
• Golf break at De Vere Oulton Hall for 2 people including DBB and 54 holes of golf. This prize also includes a Nike Academy Experience including tuition at the newly opened Nike Academy.
• A Golf break for 2 people -2 nights stay at any De Vere venue (excluding Cameron House)
