By: Golf Shake | Fri 04 Dec 2015

Having recently been voted the most picturesque in the UK, there were further accolades for the Macdonald Spey Valley Championship Golf Course at the Scottish Golf Tourism Awards, where the Dave Thomas designed-layout was recognised as the ‘Best Value for Money – £50 and £100’ course during the prestigious annual ceremony at the Fairmont Hotel just outside of St. Andrews.

Bringing together Scotland’s leading golf businesses and entrepreneurial individuals, the awards serve as a celebration of golf in the country that brought the game to the world, and provide a recognition for those institutions andpeople who are successfully championing that cause and offering excellence to visitors from all across the planet.

The Spey Valley Championship Course, which has hosted a regular event on the Challenge Tour, has continually grown in stature in recent years, as more people make the journey north to the incredibly panoramic location of the Cairngorms to enjoy the golf and facilities on offer at the adjoining Macdonald resort in Aviemore.

Praised for the amenities on site, specifically the catering, pro shop and warm welcome from employees, the course – which boasts the longest hole in Scotland at 635 yards – is now seen as being the best value layout in the nation, offering high quality for affordable prices,  which is sadly not replicated at many of the better known golfing attractions.

Understandably delighted by such acknowledgement from the industry, Keith Pickard, Group Director of Golf at Macdonald Hotels & Resorts, said: “To be recognised at these awards is an incredible achievement. Scotland boasts some of the UK’s most amazing golf venues and the competition is always extremely tough when it comes to these ceremonies.

“Value for money is at the heart of our brand mission and I’d like to personally thank all of the hard working employees at the Spey Valley Championship Golf Course who all strive to give our members and customers their ultimate best.  We pride ourselves on offering a first class golf experience, from the club house to the green, at exceptionally great value.”

Possessing breathtaking views of the mountainous and expansive layout of the Scottish Highlands, Spey Valley combines an exceptional layout with vistas that will appeal to both the most serious or recreational golfers. It is a course that is continually trending upwards on the rankings, and one that compliments (and reflects) the other qualities of the resort.

Boasting a recent £5 million investment, the Macdonald Aviemore Resort offers three four-star hotels and luxury wooden loges, in addition to a wide-ranging number of facilities, not least the popular Activity Centre, which provides entertainment for children and teenagers of all ages.

There is also a 3D cinema, renowned bars and restaurants, and a world-class conference centre, which ensures that the resort is an attractive options for families, couples, and groups of friends or indeed those simply visiting on business.

If you are seeking an enjoyably varied and comforting break, or quite simply a quality golf course for a reasonable price, then the Macdonald Aviemore Resort and its Spey Valley Championship Course, may just be an option for you to consider.  The awards and recognition are now there to make it worthy of your attention.
