De Vere Wychwood Park enhances reputation by adding European Tour Qualifying School to its championship schedule for 2010

De Vere Wychwood Park has underlined its credentials as a championship venue having added a number of high profile events to its championship portfolio for the 2010 season. The Cheshire resort has hosted the PGA EuroPro Tour in each of the previous two years building a reputation as a testing layout and this is set to be enhanced with further high profile amateur and professional events visiting in the coming months. The UK Final of the prestigious International Pairs series will be staged on 26 & 27 September, following some of Europe’s finest golfers starting their road to the European Tour in the first stage of European Tour Qualifying School which will also be held in September at Wychwood Park.

The addition of the European Tour’s qualifying school to the championship rota at Wychwood Park is a significant boost for a course which opened less than ten years ago, seeing it join the elite band of courses that meet the high standards set by the European Tour. The opening stage of the qualifying school is the first step towards a career on Europe’s highest tier of professional golf, and has seen such players as Padraig Harrington, Ian Poulter, Miguel Angel Jiminez and Ross Fisher compete, all of whom visited the qualifying school on their way towards Major and European Tour victories.

Following the successful hosting of the EuroPro Tours ABC Solutions Championship in 2009, Europe’s leading satellite tour will once again visit Wychwood Park in 2010. Created as a ‘feeder’ tour onto the European Challenge Tour, the PGA EuroPro Tour welcomes young professionals looking to make their way onto Europe’s main stage, and Wychwood Park’s championship layout of over 7000yards will provide a thorough test of every aspect of players’ games.

Joining the tournament rota at Wychwood Park is the UK Final of the leading amateur series, the International Pairs. The prestigious series sees pairs of amateurs across the world compete in their home club qualifier, with each club winner progressing to a regional final in their respective country. The top qualifiers from regional finals progress to the National Final where the winning pair progresses to the World Final to compete against pairs from across the world.
