My Reviews

Course review : Rufford Park Golf & Country Club

Played this course end of November 2011. The course was in excellent condition for the time of year, full tees in use, grassy non muddy fairways and worthy greens. You could see the greens had been recently aerated (other reviews note this) but were in good condition all things taken into account.

Clubhouse and facilities were nice and welcoming and the staff were all extremely friendly, especially so given they had recently been through a very busy spell after a high use of a Groupon deal.

The range is also very good with good use of a target system to encourage juniors but also the rest of use with some effective practice!

A great all round venue and worthy of a round any time of the year.

Looks set to be a great course with playing. Relatively new so will mature but already some stand out holes. Few long walks between holes.

You can almost see Blackpool tower on a clear day and on a still day hear the sounds of the nearby zoo.

The golf course is well laid out with some nice hole variation but provides nice rewards for the straight hitters. Lots of bunkers and some nice challenge over water.

18th is a nice finishing hole coming up to the club house.

Nice value for money course, nothing massively stands out for my but saying that I have played the course twice.

Not a long course nor that hilly but does have some nice risk and reward holes and a course worth a visit.

Cracking course with 27 holes over 3 loops of 9 making multiple options when you play, which for us meant 9 in the morning followed by 18 holes after lunch.

Great value for money and a very friendly and relaxed clubhouse and staff. Well worth a visit.

Always a course I enjoy to play, well laid out and a nice fair test of golf not too tough but many risk and reward holes if you want to have a go at posting a score.

Played in Oct 2011, given previous days rain the course was in excellent condition with lush fairways, true and responsive greens and all round very well maintained.

Cracking course in Northampton and excellent value for money.

I played in the middle of summer and despite the dry weather the fairways were holding up well which I guess was from hard work by the course stuff. The greens were exceptional, slick and true.

Great facilities and pro shop plus friendly staff and members.

The clubhouse included a veranda and upper balcony/function room which I would imagine is great for comps/societies because you can view both the 9th and 18th greens.

Highly recommend.

I always like to play this course, great challenge and test of golf. Some say hard but just requires some thinking which makes it even better. A few walks between green to tee so not a fast 4 hour round and buggies could be worthwhile to some.

Great understated course almost in the middle of nowhere!

Set in the grounds of Stapleford Park the course is fairly new but already host to the Seniors Tour and an absolute hidden gem. When we played we were shocked at how quiet it was with no sound of traffic or anything else which is generally hard to find with English courses.

Some pretty tough greens but in superb condition and lots of well placed rough (tough wispy stuff), oob and water.

Kind of inland linksy but a treat to play. They accept 2 for 1s so great way to get the cost down when the course is less busy.

Played the Longcross in May and July 2009, wow! Absolutely fantastic from start to finish. Exceptional facilities, friendly and welcoming course and one of the best courses I've ever played.

Very very tree lined which makes for accurate tee shots, so straightness is key off the tee. The greens were is fantastic condition and very quick.

Great days golf (playing) even if mine wasn't up to scratch. Will definitely be going back to play again and try out the Bernard Hunt.

Fantastic given the time of year and we also played off the full greens!

Good value for money and although a Par 3 18 hole course it's a good test and makes a nice change to the full 18 hole course at Ramsdale.

Played here in the Summer months early on a Tuesday morning ans was looking enough to get a special deal for under £20 per person.

Good course, not to long and enjoyable. Not quite a true links test given the roman banks but it can still get blustery given it's open layout, and I still managed to lose one towards the beach!

Small but friendly Pro shop and nice and welcoming clubhouse. Definitely worth a visit if you are in the area and looking for a value for money round.

Fairly new course in golfing terms which hosted the British Masters a few years back.

Set within a new housing development which is a little Wentworthish so control off the tee is required or you end up in someone's back garden!

Fantastic, venue, clubhouse, service and course which is definitely worth a visit and only 3 minutes off the M1.

Well designed course and nicely laid out only minor issues is the control required off the tee and the walk from the 9th to the 10th. The 18th is a fantastic signature hole par 5 island green overlooked by the clubhouse and clubhouse balcony!

My first experience of a links course and what a fantastic experience it was. A real course and true test of golf and some fantastic greens.

Going out the holes hug the coast line and you get the real links experience with some strange wind conditions making for some strange golf. Playing links is also fascinating how conditions change on each hole in terms of wind speed and direction.

The final few holes move away from the shoreline which gives a much needed and easier route in although the well places gorse bushes and bunkers still can catch you out!

Fantastic day out and well worth a visit. Definitely an hidden gem on the North coast of Wales

Fantastic course and venue.

Played in a society day on a cold November morning. The staff and facilities were great, very well priced for a society.

The fairways were in great condition and given the time of year the greens were fantastic and all ran very true. We'd also just started to have some frost and due to some good course management we still managed to play on full tees and greens. Definitely worth a repeat visit.

Played in Feb08 on a very cold and frosty day. Course was in excellent condition, played off mats but on full greens for the time of year, although some greens very hard and frozen.

Overall this was a great course and some nice challenging holes nothing to mundane, varied and a good test. The greens were exceptionally difficult and like up turned tea saucers which made putting tricky also very large which is the reason for my high number of 3 putts!

Definitely worth a visit especially as they take 2 for 1's.

Not a bad little course for a 9 hole practice round. Decent mix of par 3's and 4's some nice features and very good value.

Nice size club house, excellent driving range and they also have a small shop. Fairly close to the city so I think they a pretty big on tuition.

They also introduced a small par 3 course a while back but I've never played.

Given the time of year and weather conditions this was not a bad course for the price and on a 2 for 1 in Jan 2008.

The greens impressed me, similar priced courses in the area have terrible greens, here there were no temp greens, all greens were pretty dry, well drained and seemed true.

Also the course was fairly open so made the fairways seem wide and at times you didn't even know a hole had any rough.

Only drawback was some tees/greens seemed to cross over which I would guess when the course is busy this causes hold ups, I played when it was very quiet so not a problem.

The course was in fantastic condition, lush fairways and very well kept greens which were extremely true. The greens are superb and some of the best in the East Mids.

To say the course is only 20 years old it's very mature with a lot of tree lined fairways making this a good challenge for all golfers.

This would make a great venue for a competition or society day.

You pay for what you get really, purchased a set from on e of the leading sports retailer so fairly good value for money but clubs not that great.

Played this course in Oct 2006 in a GST society day. Unforuntately for everyone playing it was near torrential rain for the whole day which also meant trollies/buggies banned. Despite this the course allowed hedeghog trollies on the course and given I was organising a society day the club was in contact with me several days before on the course conditions.

Overall the course was in good condition and played well
Great facilities, great course and great friendly staff.

Only critism I would have it that there is a long walk from the 9th to the 10th tee and guess that this is because the venue is first and foremost a hotel/conference center and the golf course came 2nd, so the holes got dropped in where possible

For a municipal course this is a very reasonable and generally well kept course. Although a few fairways had tyre tracks on them from motorcycles deciding it would be good to see if they could burn circles in the turf.

Played this course in December and despite the conditions the course played well. Also the course was going through a hole change but hadn't updated the scorecards so this made it slightly difficult knowing where to go and scoring for visitors.

Everytime I play this course the layout changes. The reduction from 18 to 9 holes is good given you can get a quick round in and with it being a par 3 the holes have increased. Now over half are over 120 yards so you get to use longer irons where previously the longest hole was 120yards.

Worth playing to improve your short game over 9 holes but a bit pricey for what it is.

Greens well kept.

Unfair to comment really, the club is going through a lot of changes and development at present so the pro shop and bar where in temp use and work is still ongoing on the Masters courses.
