Woods eyes return to top 10

By Thomas Rooney on 24-Jan-2012

Former world number one Tiger Woods is hoping to break back into the world's top 10 with victory in the Abu Dhabi Championship this week.

The 14-time major champion, who had slipped out of the top 50 in 2011 following a poor 12 months, finally ended his long wait for a title when he won the Chevron World Challenge at the back end of last year.

That victory moved him up to 21st in the world rankings but he could improve upon that if he comes out on top in Abu Dhabi. Those looking at the best online US Open golf odds should remember this.

The American, who will hope to win his fourth US Open later this year at Torrey Pines, faces a tough field in the event this week with the current top four in the world, Luke Donald, Lee Westwood, Rory McIlroy and Martin Kaymer, all also playing.

The 36-year-old appears to have finally come through a tough spell on and off the course in the past two years and admits he just looking forward to getting on the course and competing with the very best again.

"I'm very excited to get going," he said. "I'm looking forward to testing my game against a very strong field."

Woods says he was delighted to finally end his two-year wait for a title when he won the Chevron World Challenge last year and is now focused on picking up for prizes in 2012.

"It's hard to believe it was that long," he added. "It was a nice way to end the season and hopefully I'll win a few more in 2012."
