Students Tee Up Course Work With a Difference

By: Golf Shake | Mon 10 Feb 2014

Students in Shropshire are being encouraged to take up course work with a difference.

Mile End Golf Club is offering a free open day to those in further education across the county which will provide the opportunity to receive expert coaching from PGA professional James Davies and his team.

The event takes place on Saturday, February 22 from 1pm-3pm.

All equipment will be provided at the club, which can be found in Shrewsbury Road, Morda, Oswestry.

Further information is available from the club on 01691 671 246 or by registering directly at http://getintogolf.org/shrop

The club is already working with Walford College in Oswestry to provide a pathway into golf for their students.

The open day is being offered as part of the national Get into golf campaign in conjunction with the Shropshire and Herefordshire County Golf Partnership.

Says Mark Taylor, county development officer for the Shropshire and Herefordshire CGP: “Students can find it difficult to either start playing golf or keep up their interest in the sport while combining it with their studies.

“But initiatives like the event at Mile End provide a cost-effective way for students to get involved while balancing other priorities like their course work.

“Golf is a game that stays with you for life, so even if it is not a major priority at this stage of your life, learning the skills needed to play the game will be something that stands you in good stead for the future to enjoy a sport that brings so many health and social benefits for people of all ages and abilities.”

Get into golf is a national campaign to inspire new golfers run by the England Golf Partnership through its network of County Golf Partnerships, which work to grow the game.

Get into golf opportunities include free or low-cost beginner courses with PGA professionals. They are a fun and sociable way to start golf – and a great way to make new friends.

Discounted lessons can cost as little as £25 for a five-week course.
