Worst Christmas Jumper Golf Day for Suffolk Appeal

Golfers can join in the Christmas jumper craze this week when Thorpeness Hotel and Golf Club, Suffolk, host a ‘Worst Christmas Jumper’ charity golf day in aid of Suffolk Family Carers ‘Eight Days a Week Appeal’ run in partnership with BBC Suffolk.

Thorpeness Hotel and Golf Club are inviting all golfers to take part in the ‘Worst Christmas Jumper’ Golf Day which takes place on Friday December 20th at the course in Suffolk with entry just £20 per team in a team stableford event with prizes for the top three finishers. **

All entry fees will be donated by Thorpeness Hotel and Golf Club along with any other money raised on the day through bucket collections to the appeal.

The charity, which celebrates its 25th anniversary this year, is aiming to raise £525,000 to buy a mobile family carers unit which will tour the county, reaching out to isolated families in remote communities and providing a focal point to support carers. The appeal aims to secure funding to keep the unit on the road for two years and provide health and well-being activities, as well as trained staff to listen and support carers in need of respite.

Paul Clouting, hotel director at Thorpeness Hotel and Golf Club, said: “Golfers are always being teased for wearing argyle or diamond patterned sweaters and bright trousers. This is one occasion when sartorial swingers can make a real difference to the lives of people who spend every single day caring for others in need."

Festive foods will be served at the halfway house on the course and the hotel’s entire staff will also be wearing Christmas Jumpers and donating £2 each to the appeal.

** Tee times are available from 8am but afternoon tee-times are limited by shorter daylight hours.  Non-members can also play for a reduced green fee of £18 (standard green fee £29).
