Open Day at Staffordshire Club Helps Get into Golf Drive

By: Golf Shake | Mon 16 Sep 2013

Get into GolfBarlaston Golf Club in Staffordshire is holding a special open day as part of the drive to encourage new golfers on Sunday, September 29.

Free coaching will be available as part of the family fun day to mark the opening of the club’s Get into golf Academy and new practice facilities.

The event takes place from 12 noon to 5pm with the club’s PGA professionals Frank Kidde and Darren Martin.

Designed by Peter Alliss – the TV commentator and former Ryder Cup player – in 1977, the course nestles alongside the River Trent on rolling meadowland and has been described as a ‘little beauty’.

It was where European Tour star David Lynn cut his golfing teeth as a former club junior and he says the club still offers a warm welcome to those starting out in the sport.

“I have very fond memories of Barlaston and I owe an awful lot to the place,” says a player who finished runner-up behind Rory McIlroy in the 2012 PGA Championship and is now playing on the PGA Tour. “They are very tolerant of junior golf there.”

The new practice facilities – which include a three-bay undercover driving range, practice green, bunker area and five-hole junior area – have been supported by Knights BMW, which has dealerships in Stafford and Stoke-on-Trent.

For further details visit the club website www.barlastongolfclub.co.uk or call 01782 372867.

Get into golf is a national campaign to inspire new golfers run by the England Golf Partnership through its network of County Golf Partnerships, which work to grow the game.

Get into golf opportunities include free or low-cost beginner courses with PGA professionals. They are a fun and sociable way to start golf – and a great way to make new friends.
