Garish Golfers start Bright Trouser Trend

By: Golf Shake | Fri 12 Apr 2013

Dunlop TrousersAmateur golfers across the UK will be glued to their TV screens this weekend as the world’s best players do battle at The Masters. The magnificent Augusta National course plays host to the season’s first major but its fashion rather than fairways that will be catching the eye according to data released today by Sportsdirect.com.

Competitors at The Masters famously compete for the green jacket but it’s the modest trouser that is enjoying the limelight of late. A staggering 48% of players at The Masters wore coloured trousers* during the first day’s play and Sportsdirect.com sales data shows this flavour for the flamboyant is filtering through to the club golfer. The sports retailer has reported a massive 58% uplift in year-on-year sales of brightly coloured Dunlop golf trousers.

The first round at Augusta saw a whole rainbow of coloured trousers on show including red, electro blue and even lime green. It also seems that white is the new black with 25 of the 93 man field wearing white trousers compared to only 23 who stepped out in traditional black.

These on-course trends are supported by Sportsdirect.com’s sales data for its range of brightly coloured Dunlop Collection trousers. Year-on-year sales of coloured trousers have risen by over 50% and white trousers sell in equal quantities to the more traditional black, navy and grey products.

The Dunlop Collection range boast colours including hot pink, lime green, yellow, electro blue and purple. The most popular of the bright colour range is red with 14.6% of sales, closely followed by royal blue (14.2%) and green (13.9%). Hot pink accounts for an amazing 9.2% of sales with an equally surprising 11.9% of people opting to step out in purple strides.

Dunlop Collection bright coloured trousers are available from Sportsdirect.com at only £7.00 per pair and it’s the competitive price point that the retailer feels has led to the boom in amateur golfers following the fashion fancies of their heroes.

Sportsdirect.com spokesperson, Vincent Smith, said: “The Masters is a great example of how golfing fashion is becoming more and more flamboyant. It’s only natural that amateur golfers want to emulate the professionals and the Dunlop Collection trousers allow them to do that without breaking the bank. Look out for a lime green trouser on a fairway near you!”
