By: Darren Ramowski | Tue 17 Jan 2012

Wyncanton Marketing Services Ltd have announced details of the 2012 golf tour for Mid-Amateur golfers in the UK for golfers 35 years of age or over and with active club handicaps of 12 or less.

The Mid Amateur Golf Tour & Order of Merit will run from the first event of the year at Chart Hills Golf Club in Kent and then take in such courses as Sunningdale, Hankley Common, Royal St David’s and at least 12 other courses across the UK.

Any male golfer 35 years of age or over, who is a member of a golf club and has an active CONGU handicap will be eligible to have their scores included in the order of merit and play on the tour, with the winner being the player who has the best points score from at least 6 rounds throughout the year.  Points towards the order of merit are awarded to the players in the top 30 places in the scratch event.  The winner(s) will also receive prizes for finishing in the top places on the order of merit.

“Following on from the success of our first events this year and the launch of the dedicated web site at  www.midamgolf.co.uk, we felt it time to give the players something to aim for and add a bit of spice to all of the events throughout 2012.” said Jason Morris, Golf Director of Wyncanton Marketing Services.  “Mid-Amateur events are becoming increasingly popular with some events attracting in excess of 66 players all with handicaps of 2 or less.  We also want to add events to the schedule that cater for the other golfers who get balloted out of some of the more established events.”

“These are exciting time for us and the new web site www.midamgolf.co.uk is attracting visitors from all over the world.  We are currently planning 6 new events for 2012 and are looking at resurrecting some tournaments that have fallen by the wayside including the Welsh Mid Amateur Championship and possibly the Scottish Mid Amateur.”

Further events will also include:

  • The North of England Mid Amateur Stroke Play Championship taking place at De Vere Slaley Hall Golf Club, Northumberland on Friday 27th July 2012.
  • The Welsh Mid-Amateur Stroke Play Championship taking place at Royal St David’s Golf Club in Harlech, Gwynedd on Thursday 7th and Friday 8th June 2012.
  • The Scottish Mid-Amateur Stroke Play Championship taking place at Dundonald Links, Irvine in Ayrshire on Friday 20th April 2012.

Players can register for the tour and order of merit at www.midamgolf.co.uk.
