Tournament Sails Into Record Books At Son Gual

Mallorca’s number one golf destination, Son Gual, hosted the 23rd Pinmar Yachtsman’s Golf Tournament which raised a record €67,000 for its nominated charities.

More than 370 golfers took part in the four-day event, at a course which was recently acknowledged as the best on the island by Golf World magazine. It was supported by more than 100 sponsors, and nearly 900 guests enjoyed the prizegiving dinner which helped to raise funds for several charities including Yacht Aid Global, which delivers aid to remote coastal communities, and Allan Graham 4 Kidz, which helps disadvantaged children and young people throughout Mallorca.

Pinmar company secretary Nick Entwisle said: “We were stunned by the incredible generosity and support offered at this year’s tournament. This has been our most successful event to date and we are delighted that so many charities will benefit from it.

“The ‘Ugly Sisters’ bar made an amazing €11,300 on the golf course and a spontaneous auction at the prize-giving dinner ended up with a fantastic donation of €10,200 from MTN Satellite Communications.
“We would like to thank everyone who made the tournament such a success, including the sponsors, players and guests.”

His comments were echoed by Andreas Pamer, general manager of Son Gual, who added: “It was once again a fabulous event which raised an enormous sum for worthwhile charities. What’s more, everybody seemed to revel in the atmosphere and the experience – what more could you want from such an event?”

This year’s prizes were awarded to several teams including Beaugeste in the ‘best yacht’ category while Astilleros De Mallorca won the ‘best non-yacht’ award. And K & M Maritime won the ‘best superyacht industry’ category.
Competitors in the tournament are not the only visitors to have been impressed with Son Gual.

Former Ryder Cup captain Ian Woosnam compared the greens at Son Gual to those at Augusta National, where he won the 1991 US Masters, while tennis superstar Rafael Nadal is a regular visitor when not competing on the ATP World Tour.

Spanish World Cup winner and Liverpool goalkeeper Pepe Reina has also visited on more than one occasion; former footballers Jamie Redknapp, Andy Gray and Alan McInally were among a group of Sky Sports analysts and commentators who visited for an end-of-season golf day; and other familiar faces at the course have included comedian Jasper Carrott, tennis legend Boris Becker and German national football coach Joachim Löw.
