Entries Now Open for 2012 Northern Matchplay

Golfers can now sign-up to next years Golfdelaluz.com Northern Matchplay Golf Championship.

The season-long competition has established itself as a popular event for club golfers across the North of England and has now attracted title sponsorship, from golf travel company Golf de la Luz, enabling the grand final to head overseas for the first time.

The tournament is open to members of a golf club in Cheshire, Cumbria, Durham, Lancashire, Northumberland and Yorkshire. Three regional finals will be held with Formby Golf Club staging the North-West final, Silloth on Solway the venue for the North-East & Cumbria section whilst golfers in Yorkshire will compete to reach Alwoodley Golf Club.

The winners at each regional final will progress to the highly acclaimed Arcos Gardens Golf Club near Cadiz in Spain where they will compete for the overall title. Arcos Gardens is ranked as one of the top courses in Europe and has staged European Tour Q-School amongst other prestigious events.

Tournament organiser Edward Battye said, “I’m delighted to welcome Golf de la Luz as the headline sponsor, they have been strong supporters of the championship since its inauguration and the backing they have given to next years event means 12 finalists will enjoy a superb week in Spain.

He added, “The regional final courses are also amongst the best in the country and will provide a true test for the area finalists.”

The first round will once again be played over 36 holes on a ‘home & away’ basis with golfers needing to win a maximum of just six games to reach their regional final.

Entry-fees have been held at £15 for the individual event and £25 per pair for the Betterball competition. There’s also an incentive to encourage early entries with all golfers who register before 1st January going into a draw to win Titleist Pro V1 golf balls.
