Royal Albartross

By: Darren Ramowski | Wed 29 Jun 2011

A limited-edition run of 20 pairs will make the hand-made Royal Albartross Mooka golf shoe collection the most exclusive currently available on the market.

The water-resistant, soft and supple leather uppers of the Mooka have a stunning and unique Nguni hair-on-calf leather trim. The Nguni cattle are indigenous to southern Africa, the choice herd of African royalty, and, arguably, the most beautiful cattle breed in the world, with their variously patterned and multicoloured hides. On the interior, the soft, breathable, calf leather linings and extra collar padding are free of any stitching which might cause discomfort.

The exclusive designer shoes cost £1,000 per pair, combining the creative energy of British design with the consummate flair of Italian manufacturing prowess, and come in a high-quality, weighted box with pale interior linings to create a luxurious bed for the high-value footwear. A limited-edition, gold-plated magnetic ball marker complements each pair.

For each pair purchased, Royal Albartross offers a chance to step out on to some of the most exclusive fairways in Europe with a complimentary golf lesson from holistic golf coach Kristian Baker, the head of instruction at Wentworth Golf Club and coach to 2008 European Open winner Ross Fisher.

The two unique black or white styles are named Themba, meaning ‘hope’ and iNjabulo, meaning ‘joy’. Each pair of Mooka shoes sold will put school shoes on the feet of 20 poverty stricken children. A donation of £200 per pair will go to the Bobs for Good Foundation which gives South African children hope, dignity and pride through a new pair of shoes, when they would otherwise risk injury walking miles, barefooted, to local schools.

The Royal Albartross brand also has a strong and fiercely defended policy of being animal-friendly and has chosen to stock these unique golf shoes with a clear conscience that the Nguni hides come as a by-product of the meat industry where these cattle are bred and slaughtered primarily for food and not for their beautiful hides.

Film star Dougray Scott and model Jodie Kidd are big fans of the Royal Albartross brand. Scott, who starred opposite Kate Winslet in Enigma and was the arch-villain in Mission Impossible II with Tom Cruise, described the brand as “… a brilliant, classic golf shoe with a contemporary twist”.

And Kidd thought they were “… fantastic shoes – supremely comfortable and stable”.

The Mooka is just one design in a range of high-quality golf shoes from Royal Albartross, with prices starting at £345 per pair.
