Skirt Golf Innovative Charity Golf Event

By: Darren Ramowski | Wed 03 Nov 2010

Jonathan Gidney Skirt GolfHow an aspiring Tour pro took the online Twitter banter too far and is now raising money for Breast Cancer research.

In what started off as a bit of banter via the social media website Twitter to reach 1,000 followers, Jonathan Gidney is now all set to raise money for Breast Cancer research at a Charity Golf day taking place at Astbury Hall, Shropshire on Sunday 5th December.

In a quest to increase his followers on Twitter Jon jovially offered to play golf in a skirt and before he knew it both Stewart Cink and Christina Kim had re-tweeted and offered support online and he quickly hit his target and the Skirt golf charity golf day was on.

Jon said 'It all started as a bit of fun on Twitter with me offering to play golf in a skirt and it spiralled from there.  The main focus is now to raise awareness and money for a great cause, whilst interacting and having lots of fun with different people at the golf day.'

The event is open to up to 24 teams and don't just think the skirt wearing is only available to Jon, any team member also entering into the spirt of it will see there team gain an extra point.  Not quite sure how that works for any females entering though!

A member at Church Stretton Golf Club, Jon is an aspiring Tour pro having spent 2010 travelling around the UK playing on the Europro and Jamega tours in his full year as a tournament professional having previously represented England and winner of various regional and club titles.

For anyone interested and wishing to take part the event takes place at the newly opened Astbury Hall, Shropshire on Sunday 5th December with a 2 tee start from 9:30am.

Further information can be found via Jon's website: http://www.jonathangidney.com/?p=503
