Ryder Cup update

By: Adam Smith | Wed 29 Sep 2010

Rory McIlroy has been stoking the fire ahead of Friday by saying the Tiger Woods has lost his 'Aura' due to his publicised personal problems.

Corey Pavin has been speaking to bbc.co.uk.

"I think other people have said things like that to Tiger in the past and have maybe regretted it," said Pavin.

"I know Tiger is aware of the comment. If they do play against each other I think it would be quite entertaining."

The most famous incident of Woods being provoked came at the 2006 World Match Play in California when Canadian Stephen Ames, Woods' first-round opponent, said he fancied his chances, "especially where he's hitting the ball".

The next day Woods won the first nine holes, seven of them with birdies, and sealed the match on the 10th.

Both captains hand in their singles number separately on Saturday night but if the Ulsterman was to come up against the world number one it would certainly be a great battle.

Click here to see some great pictures of Wednesday's practice sessions. The rain came down in Wales but the players looked very prepared in their named waterproofs, notice who doesn't have their name printed?

Also look out for Rickie Fowler playing with his hood up and the Europeans taking the mickey out of Rory's barnett!

Elsewhere Captain Colin said in his press conference that the players had an emotional message from Seve. Sent a few of the players to tears. Montgomerie said that Seve is the Ryder Cup. In reaction to that Captain Pavin organised a phone call with an F16 fighter pilot who has just returned from middle-eastern conflict. I'd probably still take Seve in a war!

It's fun fun fun in the USA team room with table tennis or 'ping pong' as they like to call it. The Mickelson v Woods grudge match is coming up soon but Matt Kuchar is the man in form.

Pairings from Wednesday's practice session

Europe
1030 McDowell and McIlroy, Kaymer and Donald
1045 Hanson and Harrington, Fisher and Westwood
1100 Edoardo Molinari and Francesco Molinari, Poulter and Jimenez.

United States
0845 Dustin Johnson and Mickelson, Overton and Watson
0900 Stricker and Woods, Fowler and Furyk
0915 Cink and Kuchar, Zach Johnson and Mahan.

Some good tweets

Practice went well again today. The Italian brother took Miguel and my cash today. I feel like a cash machine this week.

Ross Fisher not a rugby fan then: 'we had an inspirational speech by...er...by...you know....er.... Welsh rugby guy.....uh.. Gareth Edwards'

This McIlroy / Woods story is nonsense. McIlroy did & said nothing wrong & it's been blown up into a great fictional grudge.

In world of trivial tweets a serious story about Bubba's real father. Announces that he's terminally ill with cancer. Wish him all the best.

And Finally

Shocking news from Hunter Mahan is that Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson don't 'get on' and will never be close friends.

Wow Hunter........what a scoop!
