Everything You Need to Know About PGA Tour 2K23

By: Golfshake Editor | Mon 10 Oct 2022

Now that the cold and darkness of winter is approaching, many golfers will have to look elsewhere to get their fix, but thankfully that is where PGA Tour 2K23 comes in, offering a digital environment to test your skills in a different way altogether!

Golf legend Tiger Woods is the cover star for this new, officially licensed video game that offers players the opportunity to embark on a PGA Tour career, competing against modern greats of the sport and to take on some of the most iconic courses that are showcased each season on the circuit.

But, as we all know, golf is a social and community game, and the same can be said for PGA Tour 2K23, which provides a vast range of engaging multiplayer options that will keep players entertained for hours.

If you have pre-purchased or are considering buying PGA Tour 2K23 on release, then we take a closer look at just some of the main features you can anticipate, including an early review from Golfshake Ambassador Matt Holbrook.

Playable Golfers

Tiger Woods

PGA Tour 2K23 boasts a range of playable stars from both the PGA Tour and LPGA Tour, including Tiger Woods, Justin Thomas, Lexi Thompson, Lydia Ko, Brooke Henderson, Will Zalatoris, Collin Morikawa, Tony Finau, Jon Rahm, Rickie Fowler, Justin Rose and Xander Schauffele.

Each of these pros are clothed in their true-to-life attire and boast a unique set of skills that reflects their own strengths. With improved controls and adaptability, you can play as one of these tour golfers in Exhibition, Multiplayer and Divot Derby, or challenge them head-to-head in the battle for the FedEx Cup as part of the MyCAREER mode.

Licensed Golf Courses

PGA Tour 2K23

Naturally, PGA Tour 2K23 presents a vast collection of the best courses that we see each year on TV, carefully put together in a realistic manner for the game.

Courses you can play from the offset include; Atlantic Beach Country Club, Bay Hill Golf Club & Lodge (Arnold Palmer Course), Copperhead (Innisbrook), Detroit Golf Club, East Lake Golf Club, Quail Hollow Club, Riviera Country Club, St George’s Golf and Country Club, The Renaissance Club, TPC Boston, TPC Deere Run, TPC Louisiana, TPC River Highlands, TPC San Antonio, TPC Sawgrass, TPC Scottsdale, TPC Southwind, TPC Summerlin, TPC Twin Cities and Wilmington Country Club (South Course).

And there's more, as extra officially licensed courses - including Pebble Beach Golf Club, Spyglass Hill, and Torrey Pines North and South Courses - will be available post-launch and free to all players on all platforms.

Course Designer

However, for those who want to express their creativity, Course Designer remains part of the experience. Since the initial launch of PGA Tour 2K, the community has designed nearly 300,000 unique courses, several of which have been added to 2K23 at launch.

Every golfer has dreamt of designing their own course, and this is your chance to test your philosophy out, as Course Designer has been revamped to make the process even smoother than before. Will you try and emulate the classic architecture of Harry Colt and Alister MacKenzie or try and imagine your own Pete Dye-like monster!

MyCAREER & MyPLAYER Customisation

MyCAREER allows you to embark on a journey from the Korn Ferry Tour to the highs of the PGA Tour and FedEx Cup, a pathway that is made even more immersive by MyPLAYER customisation, where your own created golfer can be engineered to the most careful details.

Your golfer will have a chosen skillset that works best for them, custom club fitting, a choice of a variety of caddies, and they can be kitted out in apparel and gear from the likes of adidas, Bridgestone Golf, Callaway Golf, FootJoy, Mizuno, Nike Golf, PUMA, Titleist, TravisMathew, and many more.

Adding further realism, a broadcast-style presentation and commentary team of Rich Beem, Luke Elvy and Henni Koyack will describe your play throughout the game.

Topgolf

Topgolf

For something a little different, Topgolf is making its debut in 2K23, challenging players to take on their friends and test their skills.

Featuring a reproduction of the flagship Topgolf Las Vegas, players will hit ten balls into a series of highlighted targets of different sizes and distances, earning points and MyPLAYER XP along the way. Players can take on the Topgolf challenge alone or compete in groups of up to four at home or via online multiplayer, including private matches and matchmaking, and an online leaderboard will show your position against other competitors around the planet.

Platforms

PGA Tour 2K23 will be available on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and PC.

Release Date

Tiger Woods Edition and Deluxe Edition will be available October 11, 2022. Standard Edition will be released worldwide October 14, 2022.

Initial Review

As mentioned earlier, Golfshake Ambassador Matt Holbrook has been looking at the game for us, sharing his initial thoughts below, with a more detailed review to come!

"It has been a good few years since I had my hands on an up-to-date golf game, so it was great to see the PGA Tour back with Tiger Woods leading the way once again.

"The game itself is so much fun - from creating your own player to trying to get yourself on the PGA Tour via Korn Ferry Qualifying. The different gameplay settings mean you can make it as hard or as easy as you like, I do prefer to make it a little more challenging so I'm playing it off 'professional mode' for the moment.

"And whilst I am doing OK, I am still to pick up my first tournament win (playing tournaments can be based from one to four rounds - I've gone with two).

"I also think the addition of Topgolf is fantastic and I'm eagerly waiting to get online to play with some other players as I think this could be very enjoyable.

"I'm enjoying building my career and will report back soon, hopefully with news of my first PGA Tour victory!"
