Ryder Cup Captains Pick - One Week to go!
Peter Hanson’s win on Sunday at the Czech Open has all but guaranteed him a place at Celtic Manor in October.
The big Swede moved into eighth place on the nine man list pushing Miguel Angel Jimenez down to ninth.
There are still three players in with a shout of qualifying automatically.
Simon Dyson and Ross McGowan can get in with a win at Gleneagles next week but the same two can both get on the list if they finish first and second in the correct order (Dyson first, McGowan second) pushing Jimenez and Hanson out.
The other man who is still in with a shot at making the automatic team in Alvaro Quiros but he will need to win at the Johnnie Walker Championship.
Colin Montgomerie is going to be left with a difficult choice come Sunday night as a lot of players that have great Ryder Cup pedigree have not qualified automatically.
Paul Casey, who Hanson knocked off the list, is amongst them along with Padraig Harrington, Luke Donald, Justin Rose, Edoardo Molinari and outsiders such as Carl Petterson and the veteran Bernhard Langer.
Montgomerie is almost certainly going to be without the inspirational Sergio Garcia unless the Captain provides us all with a shock and picks the charismatic Spaniard.
The PGA Tour based players like Casey and Harrington have all decided not to play in the final qualifying events and instead focus on the FED-Ex cup play-offs that start in the US this week.
All the talking will come to an end on 29 August after the event at Gleneagles when Captain Monty will decide which European starlet to leave out.
