Tiger Woods announced that he will participate in the playoffs series of the FedEx Cup that will start next August 26th at Ridgewood Country Club, New Jersey.

Golf betting fans should consider that the Top 125 players on the PGA Tour points list will attend this championship. Woods is the number one ranked player in the World Golf Ranking, but is 108th on the points list.

The FedEx Cup playoffs have four consecutive stages and the winner will receive a prize of $10 million dollars.

For his part, this Thursday Woods joined officially the event named “The Barclays,” which is the first of four playoff tournaments.

Woods is in the No.108 position with 431 points and I think that his situation could improve if we consider that Tiger was the winner of this tournament in 2007 and 2009, while Vijay Singh from Fiji Islands, won the 2008 FedEx Cup.

Woods missed the playoffs in 2008 and didn’t play this tournament in that year due to a surgery on his knee.

On the other hand, after The Barclays, only the first 100 players will qualify to the Deutsche Bank Championship in Boston, which will be the second playoffs event.

"We are excited to have Tiger Woods in what must be considered as one of the most exciting events in the history of this competition," said the executive director of the tournament, Peter Mele, in a note published by the Professional Golfers Association.

Moreover, this will be the tenth tournament for Woods this season and his best results have been two fourth place-finishes in the Masters Golf Tournament, played at Augusta and in the U.S. Open.

In the World Golf Championships-Bridgestone Invitational, Woods had the worst performance in his 14-year-career, finishing in the No.78 position of 80 contenders.
