It was another incredible weekend in the world of golf.

Fisher with his Irish Open titleAnother 59 on the US Tour, an English winner on the European Tour and two more majors had to be settled thanks to the seniors and ladies tours.

PGA Tour

Stuart Appleby became the first non-American to shoot 59 on the US Tour to win the Greenbrier Classic in West Virginia.

The 39-year-old is the fifth player on the PGA Tour to reach the milestone, after shooting nine birdies and an eagle to win by one shot from American Jeff Overton.

Overton missed a birdie putt at the 18th that would have forced a play-off.

It was Appleby's first title since the 2006 Houston Open and his ninth US PGA Tour victory overall.

European Tour

Ross Fisher claimed his fourth European Tour win at the Irish Open, held at the beautiful Killarney Golf and Fishing village.

The Wentworth man held off a spirited challenge from home favourite Padraig Harrington to eventually win by two shots.

The win is a massive boost for Fisher’s Ryder Cup hopes as he leaped into sixth spot in the automatic qualifying list.

A final round 65 was enough to fend off Harrington, whose late surge saw him shoot a 64 to be the leader in the clubhouse before Fisher finished the job.

"I knew it was going to be a tough day, I hung in there and stayed patient," reflected Fisher, who twice shared the lead with Harrington on the final day but responded on both occasions to end with an 18-under 266 total that matched European Ryder Cup captain Colin Montgomerie's nine-year-old tournament record.

Seniors Tour Langer celebrates in Washington

Bernhard Langer continued his fine form as he claimed his second seniors major in two weeks.

The German carded a fine 67 to win the US Seniors Open at Sahalee Country Club in Washington.

Langer was three shots clear in the end from another home favourite this time in the form of former Masters Champion Fred Couples as he added to his British Seniors Open title he won at Carnoustie last week.

LPGA Tour

Taiwan's Yani Tseng held off a late challenge from Katherine Hull to clinch the Women's Open by one shot.

Tseng, 21, who has led the tournament since Thursday evening, had been four shots clear at the start of the day.

But bogeys at the third, eighth and 10th holes allowed Australian Hull the chance to hit back at Royal Birkdale.

Tseng kept her nerve to card a one over 73 and take her major tally to three having won the Kraft Nabisco Championship earlier this year and the LPGA Championship in 2008.
