Final Gtour event of 2009 set to be close run battle

By: Darren Ramowski | Fri 30 Oct 2009

Order of Merit leader Matt Surgey - Slaley HallAfter 7 successful events around the UK during 2009 the final event of the 2009 Series looks set to be a hotly fought battle for those in contention for the Order of Merit title.

De Vere Staverton Park will provide the venue for the final event on the 7th November and will see 5 players go head-to-head in a race for the 2009 crown. 17 other players are in contention for the top 4 spots and the final standings for the top 10 could see any of 30 players occupy the 2009 Order of Merit table.

Colin Astbury, Events Director said 'Our inaugural year has been very successful and the Final event looks set to be a great climax with so many players still in contention for the Order of Merit. Staverton Park was the first event of the year and will make a great venue for the final event of 2009 providing a fair but testing course for the title challengers.'

The Tour has been led from the outset by Matthew Surgey (Yorkshire) (11) with Shane Davies (Northants) (5) snapping at his heels having carded 2 consecutive 1st's at Belton Woods and Mannings Heath.  Joining the tour later in the year and having only played in the last 2 at Mannings Heath and De Vere Carden Park and scoring 2 top 5 finishes, Jim Bishop (5) is also chasing hard for the final event.

Third placed David Casey (Manchester) (15) said about the Tour, 'I was excited about playing golf against others and it seemed like the perfect opportunity to test my own skills against other players.  I now find myself in the top 3 on the order of merit with a chance to actually win it on the final day, this has really fired me up for Staverton Park.'

With the final event set to see 48 golfers taking part there will be a large number of Order of Merit points on offer, events are weighted based on attendees which has resulted in the thrilling climax for 2009.
