PowaKaddy C2i Electric Trolley Review

By: | Wed 15 Aug 2018

PowaKaddy are renowned for producing state of the art electric and push trollies, specialising in combining innovative folding technology with efficient and effective design. The PowaKaddy C2i is the latest model from the impressive C2 range. The 2018 model is one of the simplest compact-folding electric trollies currently on the market, regarded as one of PowaKaddy’s best trolley designs.

The C2i model includes a variety of new additions which has helped the product stand out from its fellow electric trolley competitors, features including:

  • Ultra-lightweight Simple-2-fold™
  • NEW 2.8” mid-size full colour widescreen
  • Unique Plug ‘n’ Play™ battery system
  • ADF Distance control
  • High performance low profile PowaFrame® Chassis
  • Thinnest lithium battery on the market
  • Integrated carry handle
  • Height adjustable soft touch handle
  • Integrated USB charging port
  • Powerful whisper quiet 230w Motor
  • 3 Year Warranty on the trolley

In my opinion, the key feature that has made the C2i compact so successful is the lightweight and compact frame. Weighing only 9.4kg, the C2i is one of the lightest electric trolley frames currently on the market, a huge asset for golfers wanting a trolley that is light and easy to lift out of the boot. The C2i includes the simple 2-fold™ system which allows the trolley to be folded into its smallest state within a few seconds. This incredibly compact nature of the trolley makes it perfect for storing in your car boot or even taking it abroad. For such a technologically advanced trolley to weigh so little and be so unbelievably compact was truly remarkable and is such a hugely important factor in this products overall success.

Another stand-out feature of the C2i model is the 2.8” mid-size full colour widescreen display which offers a host of features, including a digital power gauge, battery fuel indicator, automatic distance control and a USB charging port. The display has been expertly put together to offer both a professional and smart-look, with a simple user-face that is very easy to use and navigate through. Even golfers who may typically be put-off by using technology will be amazed at how simple it is to use the digital display features to help benefit their experience when using the C2i compact trolley.

The C2i trolley is powered by the “thinnest, lightest and most powerful lithium battery on the market.” The battery is equipped with PowaKaddy’s unique Plug ‘N’ Play battery system design, a brilliant invention that allows the battery to be fitted to the trolley without a single wire being used. Simply place the battery pack in the intended slot on the base of the trolley and immediately the C2i is responsive and ready to go. For such a powerful battery, I was amazed at how quickly the battery charged to its full capacity and how it held that charge for such a long period of time, the 36-hole, 260Wh battery in-particular was incredibly impressive, holding its charge for well over 36-holes in my experience.

Using the C2i compact trolley I found very few weaknesses, however one subtle weakness that I did notice was the sensitivity of the digital power gauge. While the gauge is very easy to use and works very well to simply change the speed setting on the trolley, at times I also felt that simply nudging or accidentally brushing past the gauge would change the speed of the trolley and sometimes catch me off guard as it started to speed off. While this only happened on a couple of occasions, partly due to pilot error, I did find myself slightly cautious of using the higher speed settings on the trolley as they can be overly powerful and unbalance the weight of the bag on the trolley. Once I was aware of these settings I quickly began to understand them better and use them when necessary, such as going up an extremely steep hill or mound.

I have been playing golf since I was 16, and after 5 years this was the first time I had ever used an electric trolley for a full round of golf before. As a young and somewhat athletic teenager, I always felt stupid even thinking about using a trolley of any kind, when walking and carrying is such a simple prospect. Seeing my Dad constantly struggle folding-out his trolley and meticulously charging the electric battery each night before a round, I just felt there was far too much hassle when it comes to using an electric trolley on the course and was therefore put off the idea of ever using one.

After reviewing the C2i compact trolley, I can safely say I have been truly converted and my negative assumptions have been changed. The C2i is one of a kind when it comes to a compact trolley, the trolley folds up almost instantaneously and can fit into the smallest of all boot spaces. The battery is small enough to charge in any convenient location and requires absolutely zero fiddly wires to plug in and use immediately. All of the previous assumptions I have had about using an electric trolley were well and truly put to bed after using the PowaKaddy C2i. Without a doubt, in my opinion this is the best electric trolley currently available on the market. The C2i compact trolley has surpassed all its predecessors in the C2 range, PowaKaddy have definitely managed to design a trolley that is both unique and brilliantly effective.
