Golfshake.com Open SW Qual - results

By: Darren Ramowski | Tue 23 Jun 2009

The 3rd event for the golfshake.com Open recently took place at Donnington Grove Golf Club as the South West regional qualifier.  30 golfers took part in a once again sunny day in what was billed as one of the most competitive regions with almost 65% competing in the lower handicap division.

This is golfshake's 2nd visit to Donnington Grove which is a fantastic venue in Berkshire which is a test to all golfers with the length off the yellow tees, well placed bunkers and large and true greens.

Similar to previous events the final results were fairly close with Phil Prior edging out the overall top spot off a 19 handicap with 37 points although he was closely followed by Mark Seymour shooting 36 points with his inside knowledge being a member at Donnington Grove.

The 2nd spot on the high handicap group went to Nigel Jones on countback after 3 players all tieing on 34 points.  John Standing requires a mention having the previous day advised that his new club handicap was 19 being 2 shots lower than his golfshake.com 21 handicap.  John would have finished in 2nd spot with 36 points without the handicap change but finished 4th overall after countback.

Longest drive and nearest the pin was won by Stuart Govan and to quote Dave Ley 'Stuart used the same club on both holes, driver!'

David Ley organised a great event and was thoroughly enjoyed by all.

These players have made it through to the golfshake.com Open final at Wychwood Park later this year:

David Ley (8) - 35 points
