I,m playing in a fun comp on Sunday with only 3 clubs allowed, not 3 clubs and a putter as in some comps. Which 3 would you use??

Rescue/Hybrid can be used as a putter. 8/7 iron and the PW.

Cheers guys, I was thinking along those lines - 21  degree hybrid/7 iron and PW. Only worry is PW as course riddled with bunkers with steep lips so could be there all day!

In that case swap the PW for a SW. Either or should do the trick though.

Thanks for your suggestions. I played the 9 hole 3 club  only comp yesterday and scored a poor 15 points. Used 3 wood 7 iron and PW. Putted with 3 W. schoolboy error. Lots of 3 putts. Aaaaaaaagh

Hard luck Dave. I would have used 3 wood (can be used as a putter/bump and runner from 20 yds. 5 iron, from 1/2 shot to full shot range covers 130-200 and 9 iron from 130 yds in, you can open the club face if bunkered.

Dave, I've got our 3 club just after Xmas.  Over the years I have tried putting with irons, hybrids and woods but have come to the conclusion that as somewhere between 1/2 - 1/3 of your shots are putts you might as well the correct club for the job - a putter.  I'll probably add to this a hybrid and a 7 iron.

i would also be happy to play Driver or (5 wood), 6 iron, PW.  Use the 6 iron for putting

there are so many combinations to choose from and i've never played in a 3 club comp, but it has to  come down to each golfers persoanl preference and golf course layout etc.

Play the round to your own strengths.

I am with you mr Ley but i would probably go with the 5 iron rather than the 6.

Fascinating how you all would take different clubs. I agree with Richard after my debacle. I'll take a putter next time. Happy Christmas to all Golfshakers.
