Just watching the open...and there was a bit where by they were showing Jimenez warming up....and he had metal spikes in his shoes....Are they allowed? I thought that they were now not wanted by the clubs. Or is this a case of the pro's can do as they like?

just a question not a problem

There is no rule specifying what footwear must be worn when playing golf. It is upto the club/course/competition organiser.

If the course is very hilly and wet, steel spikes are sensible.

Some places in the winter ask you to use metal spikes

Replaced my metal spikes last night with some new ones. My course do not have any restrictions  on type of spikes / cleats.

I remember Fred Couples playing in a pair of shoes with no spikes.

Funny how some clubs now ban metal spikes, yet for years you had to have golf shoes (that had metal spikes!).

No restriction at my golf club, but it appears hard to find metal spikes now.

metal spikes in the wet every time (and safer)

a friend of mine slid on an incline with cleats - out for nearly

two months with bruising !

I've found that some items in sports direct are not all that good qualitywise.
