After a quick lesson with Santo the other day, I'm not sure that I'm ready for his recommended pre-shot routine....

Don't think it's any good Tim.  Did you see how many he ended up taking off the tee?  Nearly as many as Dave Ley on the 18th at last years West Mids qualifier

Maybe so.....

But consider this.

He managed to dance and hit 11 golf balls in the time it takes Govan to hit 1

Thanks for sharing that Tim i haven't seen that in a long time , Jackie burke always said that addressing the ball is like stepping into a dance you need a rythm. The most extraodinary thing about that film clip is that it was done in one take, genius.

Ps I 've just come in from dancing lets hope it rubs off tomorrow when I tee off

Creative Commons License photo credit: danceonair1986   Fred Astaire, one of America’s greatest dancers, was also a very well known actor.  Not many are aware that he was a low-handicap golfer.  Astaire let his golfing prowess be known one day in 1938.

While making the film, Carefree, the script called for Astaire to strike a dozen golf balls with his driver in rhythm while dancing.  The entire scene was to be filmed in one continuous sequence.

Astaire was flawless during the scene.  Afterwards, the crew went to retrieve the golf balls and to their absolute amazement, the crew found all the balls resting within eight feet of one another.  Many say that if Fred Astaire would not have pursued dancing and acting, he could have easily become a successful tour golfer.

1. Fred Astaire | 1899-1987
The multi-talented dancer, singer and actor learned to play golf as a boy during a 1914 vacation in Delaware Water Gap, Pa. "I was so crazy about golf I couldn't sleep nights," he later wrote in material for his autobiography. "I had a terrific desire to be a golf pro." In his 1938 movie "Carefree" -- with fellow golfer Ginger Rogers -- Astaire hit balls while tap-dancing, an incredible routine (it's on YouTube, click here to view) that he devised on the first tee at Bel-Air Country Club in Los Angeles, where he played to a 10-handicap, and where he made an ace at the 13th.
