Braid Hills course in Edinburgh

I had some spare time today while I was working in Edinburgh so I found a course to have a round on. Braid Hills is a muni course that is high up and looks over the city and thr Firth of Forth......great views all around.

The interesting thing for me was the course itself, so different from my home course and others I had played on, I actually felt like a 11 year old again - it had lots of gradient changes, blind shots over hills, shots over valleys, greens cut into the hillside, big sections of bare rock everywhere.....one tee box was 50 feet above the fairway with gorse inbetween

It was a real adventure ....it's not often when you lay-up that the green is 20ft above your head level is it.......but it made for fun shots to be tried.

I fully recommend this little gem of a course if you are in the area - it is not long at 5345 off the yellows but it is deceptive. They have a par three at 114 yards...I got a five, that hole seemed almost straight up to the sky

Being resident in Edinburgh, this is a course I've played many times.  It is certainly the pick of the Municipal courses in the area.

The views are pretty spectacular when the weathers right and despite the length offers a good challenge (particularly when the wind blows!) with many interesting holes, as Lewis said.

How did you find the drive on the 16th Lewis?

....the 16th - if that's the one I'm thinking of......I went from the white tee box that is way way ....way above the fairway and smashed a nice drive. The wind was cutting across at that point so I aimed it a little left, it was hard to judge if the guys I was following were out of range given the height above the fairway.

I carded an 86 which I felt happy with considering it was my first time round....The next time I go round I'll probably not get lost either....I did twice ! they could do with better signage.

.....actually thinking about it....was the 16th the right dogleg hole with a narrow blind fairway?....if it was that one I hit a 3 wood cutting the gorse off on the rightside and landed safely on the fairway....I think it was the 14th that was high up from the whites

Yes,it's the dogleg right.  That's a brave 3 wood!!!

The 14th is an intimidating drive. Up until very recently the yellow tee was up high too.

Well done on your 86, that's a very decent score for your first time round there!

Managed to play there as part of a Stag Do I organised for my best mate ... I was overjoyed with the course! Stunning scenery and really well kept, very impressive indeed. (My profile pic is from there in fact!)

Played Carrick Knowe up there a couple of days later which is also pretty nice and a lot, LOT flatter.

Saw a guy screaming at a young lad about his poor attitude towards the way he'd played in a competition there too ... thought the Jocks too this game a bit less seriously! He he!

I must admit that I had far more fun playing that course than I do my home course (rudding park)....it's not very long but you have to be accurate and the holes are great to look at.......I could see it being even better to play once you know your way around it.

Even the straight line holes had something about them be it elevation change or rocky outcrops....or both.

I enjoyed the 18th as I took a driver off the tee, I got it across the valley and up the hill and very nearly got it on the green

I look forward to going there again
