I don't have one, but the range where I have not yet been banned is located 23 miles away. Banned ranges exist 5 miles and 12 miles away.

My Course is only 1 mile from my Front Door and the Club where I work is only 8 miles away. So I don't rack up too much mileage over a year which is nice.

Mine is 8 miles from my home (City centre course so it's a 50 min drive) but it's only a long drive (the golf kind, no not the volkswagan), about 300yards away from my work. So I get 9 holes in three mornings a week before work.

Sanders? Why have you been banned from your local driving ranges?

The more I read your posts, the more I wonder if your an international golf secret agent...

My homecourse is 18 miles away from home, but A roads all the way so about 20 minutes drive. Luckily its about 12 from work so only a 15 mnute drive so can easily get a few i in the morning or afternoon.

I'm a de vere memeber too, so I get free golf at 10 UK venues and discount green fees at the carrick in loch lommond. As I live in Stoke On Trent I have 3 venues that 4 courses in cheshire <50 miles i can play when I want. Played Carden Park yesterday for free good venue shame my golf ruined the day

Ray,

My local ranges are only 250 yards long, and none have a rear catch net. It does not take a monster hitter to cause problems on a 'postage stamp.'

International secret agent? With a Russian wife and my regular visits to the USA I can see how one might suspect that. But it's the chaps with the beards who are the threat these days, and I never travel in that direction!

Sanders? Why have you been banned from your local driving ranges?

Ray, it is because the driving ranges are fed up with him clouting the ball over the end of the range.

John,

Paul Heath came to see me the other day and he was 30 yards through the back of my nearest range!

I am not a villian or a spy.  I am a good guy. (On Sundays).

We need decent driving ranges in this country!!!!!!!!!!!

John,

In every other 'missile sport' a competitor could arrive at an arena and break the existing world record and no-one would be inconvenienced - shot, discus, javelin, hammer, frisby, archery etc. The only other sport I can think of where participants can possibly assault each other is hitting a six in cricket. But maybe cricket grounds now have safety nets?

I drive past school playing fields and even they have safety nets for their footballs. A golf ball is far more lethal than a football and at the very least a rear safety net is needed. It's a gaping hole in Health & Safety legislation.

The young big hitters in Europe have *  40 yards on me, and 60 yards at world level. I am not the primary menace. It is the  facilities which have not kept up with the increased distances generated by today's equipment.

At the age of 15 I was a big hitter. Likely the second longest in my GC. Now, at the age of 59 I'm 130 yards longer. Yet I have not become Superman!      Equipment has moved on, but facilities have been left 50 years in arrear!

I can see that some people may see the issue as a joke, or even a desirable state of affairs, but at the moment driving ranges are my only practice arenas so the situation is far  from being funny. No-one here has thankfully (yet) made a joke of it. If they do then I'm fair game and it's not a problem.

* Speaking averages. Our elite young European Longdrivers are world class!

Sorry to have drifted off topic!

Ivan our range by us has a 280 yrd diagonal distance with a high net and 60 foot trees behind that . Beyond there is 9 hole pitch and putt, Glazier would clear all that and land the other side of the course approx 360,370 yrds. There is no one on the course being late evening and in darkness. The range owners wern't entirely happy there either but the balls were collected first thing in the morning by the ball collectors,me being one of them on occasions.

My home club is 9.7 and my second is 5.2miles

Dave,

Paul very kindly 'held my hand' in Summer '07 for my first LD tournament - the Italian Open Longdrive Championship. We travelled together, and stayed at the same hotel in Rome.

I have a photo of us together after the event. We possibly look like David and Goliath, and I was not the big chap!

I also have on my workshop wall a photo of us together with John Whitehead, our club builder at the time. John (StrikerightGolf)  has now re-located to Scotland. Paul was possibly also using your club building services at the time.

It was John who introduced me to both Paul and Longdrive Golf after I was laughed out of American Golf when I sought a decent driver. (Not American Golf at Delapre where I now practice).

From my front door to the first tee at my club, Eccleston Park is a long par 5 away.

Very handy indeed.

Also have a cracking muni, Sherdley Park, and 2 excellent courses within 2 minute drive, Blundells Hill and Grange Park.

Lucky really
