Been playing for few months now and going well, aprt from the putting.

My putting stinks! I basically 3 more the 10 holes a round.

On average shooting between 93 and 98 and really want to get below 90, very achieveable if i can sort this part of my game out.

I currently use a cheapo putter (slazenger job), and practice at home etc, length getting better but mis constantly to the right.  My backswings are not square - they tend to come back towards my feet, creating this push to the right.  Sometimes i stop myself mid stroke when i see it happen and try the back swing again!

I have tested a few in the shop and seem to swing better with them, especially the monza itsy bitsy spider and odessey 2 ball.  I dont know if its in my mind but the more expensive putters certainly feel better and make a better swing for me.

I know my putter swing needs to be looked at and will book a lesson soon, but would it be advisable to purchase a new putter now or after the lessons?

Any advice on waht putters to look for?

It's not your putter.  If you can put you can do it with anything - my brother uses a horrible brass thing that he stole from a seaside crazy golf course back in the seventies and I don't think I've ever seen him 3 put when he's on the green, whereas I've seen others 4 or even 5 putting with weapons costing hundreds.  It's all about feel and technique as to what suits you, not the price.

Tim Is quite right.

I often putt with my wedges or 8 iron.. It's the technique, nothing else
