hi all,

iv just started to draw my wedges and short irons,my thoughts are that drawing a ball is only desirable off the tee or with your long game, im not too worried about the situation, i slightly altered my grip which gave me a lower ball flight, more consistency of ball striking and more length, but still a slight fade, i tend to either pull my longer shots or slightly fade them(hard to aim)and either pull or draw my short irons/wedges,

all ideas/ramblings/musings/crackpot theories welcome

When I started doing this is was because my swing plane was too flat.

I was swinging the club around my body too much.

Try getting the club on the correct swing plane and see if it makes any difference.

How does one set the club on the right swing plane is possibly the next question?

When I press my hands forward at address, as the face of the club turns outwards, I stop at the face angle point I need. Such angle is then used to set the swing plane.

Possibly the second most neglected item (behind the grip) is the takeaway. If this is inconsistent then everything that follows will likewise be.

When driving most amateur golfers (i) rush their takeaway, and (ii) fail to push their takeaway into a wide enough swing arc.

If I have not been forced to lift my left foot shortly after the takeaway then I know that my swing arc is not wide enough. Even if I go on to seemingly hit the ball well, I will not have crushed it.  Crushing the ball with a driver requires a much wider swing arc than with an iron.

Swing plane (and swing arc / width) are both extremely important, but the difference between various swing planes is not great for a competent golfer. Most students adjust too much. And here is what can happen:
