Disqualified after carding a 6 under in the Irish open for incorrectly signing his card. The score was right but two of the holes scores were the wrong way round.

He must be gutted!!

He has now learned a valuable lesson, he will never do this again.

Just goes to show you should cross reference before you sign.

I have no sympathy.

I agree Wayne, at the end of the day rules apply and Mr Rock has made an expensive mistake!

i'd have let him off with a warning, it's not like he cheated, if it where stableford then maybe it would have changed things but in their game..it's no biggy as long as the score was corect

I agree greg, but at the same time the rules are there for a reason.

The reason being of course that not all pro tournaments are televised. And certainly only a small fraction of amateur tourneys.

It's easy to say "yeah, everyone knows his score cuz it's on camera". But what happens in a non-televised qualifying school tournament? If a golfer cards the wrong score on a hole... the officials can't rewind the tape and see what he actually scored.

It is VITAL, that each golfer, from society hack to top 10 pros, follow the same simple rules for scoring.

No one wants to see compulsery referees having to go out with every Thursday 3 ball. It's so impractical.

Keeping your opponent correct and he keeping you correct is the best way to work it, from the Masters down to your next society outting.

I can't remember when the Rule changed, if it changed at all.

I seem to recall that a Player is responsible for his correct score for each hole being put in the correct place on his card and not for the total score for the round. BUT if he handed in a Card with a marked higher Total Score than each individual hole score added up to, then that Total counted. If it was lower though, nothing. I also seem to recall that the Marker was not penalised for marking incorrect scores and it was the sole responsibility of The Player to ensure his card was correct.

Rock's fellow countryman David Lynn was the playing partner who got his scores wrong.

P.S when did I mention the majority of things Ray replied to my comment about?
