Just wanted to say Hi and thank you for such an informative site/community.

I recently got my first set of golf clubs but have been playing Pitch and Putt on and off since I was 16 (now 32). A friend and myself have started to want to take it to the next level and I'm booked in for some lessons in the coming weeks (I can't hit a wood to save my life although 4I+ I feel moderately comfortable with).

We've yet to grace (I mean humiliate ourselves lol) on a full course of which there are plenty in Swansea. Any tips or good web links as to rules\etiquette\fees etc as when we do make the leap we don't want to make a tit of ourselves, and don't really have any contacts at local clubs etc to help explain.

Cheers

Keiron

Shakers....a golf student has entered our midsts!

Welcome golf student!!!!!!! Enter the corridors of wisdom....halls of  peace and understanding. A place where knowledge, love and total harmony prevails. A place of learning, a place of joy. A place for you.

Here is what you requested:

http://golf.about.com/cs/beginnersguide/a/golfetiquette.htm

You are quite right in not wanting to make a bressaker of yourself, and possibly blotting your copy book from the onset. What could be worse?

You will no doubt have been told that golfing begginers have, on all UK courses,  to be clearly identifiable for their first three rounds of golf.

Standard attire for your probationary period is either a pink or red shirt with (preferably) matching  pantaloons.

Of course lots of newcomers do not wish to put themselves to such expense as they may not later take to the game, and instead choose to hire horse riding breeches which are quite acceptable attire during the said probationary period. But the pink or red shirt must still be worn in every case.

Once the correct attire is donned many normally unacceptable etiquette breaches will be automatically overlooked.

On behalf of us all I hope  that these advices are of assistance and welcome!

Welcome Keiron,

Glad you enjoy the site, keep working at the golf game and I'm sure you'll get there in this love/hate relationship that virtually everybody has with the great game!
