How many courses played in your life ?

Just been asked this question by National Club Golfer via twitter @ncgmagazine

Joe's 20 and played 40+ so far.   I'm 34 have played 8 years on and off and have played around 50+

So what about everyone else ?  not looking for the most, JP would prob win but just a general idea for all the Golfshakers on the forums.  Anyone younger than Joe broken 50+ ???

Obviously tracking your scores on Golfshake is a great way to track courses played online not just for the stats, analysis or golf handicap but for a record of your acheivement.  Just make sure your wife's not checking if you upload a round for a date when you were **on a training course**

I did this about a year ago and listed over 200 English courses, over 50 in Scotland, Wales & Ireland together, plus another 50 worldwide. That is over 300.

I do know that by 21yrs old I'd past 50 courses.

A mere novice me then, have got 68 courses tracked on here in the 4 years on here, plus the ones before I started this and the Algarve ones  - so probably another 14 or 15 on top of that.  The total before I was 20 was, er, 2... (unless you count pitch and putts and crazy golf).

132 for me, including 33 in "England's Top 100" (it is my aim/ambition to play all 100).

5.

Two of which are 2 courses in the same complex. 3 out of 5 are 9 holers.

I guess i'm only getting started!

In the five years as a member of Golfshake i've  63 course favourites. So minus a couple of doubles 50 + ish i think.

Does that qualify for golf gypsy status?

Be good to get to 100!

Very very few, but recently over a two year period I have competed in England, Scotland, Eire, Italy, France, Sweden, Canada and the USA.

Part of the secret to funding such trips is to fly with Continental Airlines. Very often as one waits to board there is an announcement:

"We are over-subscibed on our seat sales. Would anyone like to sell us back their ticket and get on the next flight?"

Last year on my USA trip I consecutively sold back twice on the same return journey and gave myself a total delay of 11 hours. In return I got $750. and $500. (USA dollars) to spend on future flights.  So I got paid over $100. per hour for the wait plus two free meal tickets for spending at the airport.  That day alone covered a large part of the cost of two more USA return trips. Trips do however have to be taken within a subsequent 12 month period when funding flying with compensation vouchers.

Team Zimmer refuses to be handicapped by lack of funds!

Agree about Continental, great way to sell back your ticket - I've been in a few poker style stand-offs as the hardened travellers held out for better deals.  Worse thing I found was if you actually got on the flight.  Did once do the deal of a lifetime with them flying back to London which was, inevitably way over-booked - I ended up going to Paris business class on Air France with a shuttle back to E. Mids.  Result..

My experience:  They do not know how to re-book your luggage and it invariably arrives at your home within 24 hours by courier! Every silver lining has a dark cloud lurking behind it.

I can remember doing the same thing at St.Louis airport when the flight was overbooked to London. I stayed till the next day, with luxurious overnight hotel accommodation and a very nice evening meal together with a system wie return for two to any destination on their schedule.

I later used these two tickets for one way for myself and wife to San Francisco returning out of LAX Los Angeles. I could have gone to Hawaii but I felt the long flight time would not have been good for my heart.

Darren

Surely an appropriate time to publish from the site two things

1 - Total average courses played per member (simply as a matter of interest)

2. - And maybe of more interest to members top 10 % of what those courses are by virtue of "Favourite Analysis" - per the site ? and of course there will be regional influence

but what the hell ? let us see what comes out on top after all we all travel to a degree !

Colin,

Good idea.

I would also like to see a list of best deals for on-line booking.

Any courses offer a round of golf for £10. or less, bar Peewit of Ilkeston which I've tried?

Too optimistic?

Back on topic, I have played 44, will be 45 on Saturday after playing Norton (Teeside) in the TGA Society. Most have been in the last 4 years in Societies and with a mate.

Prior to that (and prior to my 5 year hiatus due to serious back problems) I was largely a one club man

Ivan - I've played a couple of courses lately around the £10 mark - Allestree, the muni north of Derby, great layout and pretty good greens considering and Ormonde Fields near Codnor, a little cracker.  Lots of deals to be had around here for under £15 as well.

Thanks Tim,

I'll bear that in mind when I next visit relatives in Derby. When running for Derby & County Athletic Club our main local rivals were the Allestree Woodlands club. I also visited friends there every two weeks.

I think that my 1970s Ilkeston boss played Ormonde Fields as his home club. A couple of years ago I telephoned him for a chat (first for  25 years) only to find that he had died 3 weeks earlier. Sad.

Once I secure a job  my first port of call will almost certainly be my old club Erewash Valley, albeit it will likely cost far more than £10.

If you sign up (email address only) to www.teetimes.co.uk you get a email every thursday with offers from as little as £4 a round and in many cases 65- 70% off the normal green fees.

Places like Wychwood Park for £10, instead of £30 etc
