So here goes.........................................

Slow play is good for the soul. It teaches people to be patient and allows golfers to get in touch with their inner squirrel.

It should be compulsary to use an electric trolley and if you are behind 6 groups of senior lady golfers (as I was on Thursday) simply take along a book to read or some knitting or something else to pass the time in between shots.

Simple

patience is a virtue

consideration is a 2 way street between all golfers and allowances need to be seen to be made towards fellow golfers.

i have no time for inconsiderate people

You can walk and play as slow as you like, but you must not spend time doing nothing.

Patience is only a virtue when you don't have to rush off to work in two hours and you're trying desperately to complete a round in the only 3 hour window you have in your week filled with work, wife, kids, errands etc...

So, slowy! 7 practice shots is enough... get out of my damn way!

(that should ramp up the argument a bit!)

You have hit the nail on the head there, Ray. Unfortunately, the antics of the pros on the TV have instilled 'their approach to the game' in the modern day amateur and social player to the detriment of the game as I once knew it.

Ray,

You need to get your priorities right.  Golf, kids, work, pub, wife.

Tha way you'll always have at least 5 hours to do put up with the slow players etc.

See...................David has just admitted he puts work BEFORE the pub and that's why there is so much slow play all the time !!!!!

People just can't get their priorities right.

Work pays for the pub, well and everything else on the list actually so it has to figure pretty high.!!!

We played in our monthly medal today & our 3rd playing partner dropped out so we had to go out as a 2 ball with 3 balls in front & behind.

We were expecting a long round with it begin a medal so we were able to 'take in the scenery' but saying that we still only took 3hrs 40mins!

Work has always been the curse of the drinking man !

I say make slow play a habit and have compulsory picnics every 6 holes.

ITS THE WAY FORWARD and thhe world would be a nicer place
