not sure if this is the right place or not, went out for 9 holes after work with a collegue proir to the season opener of the society i am a member of expecting nothing other than to fine tune a few things, anyway 4th hole 245 yard par 4, striking the ball well and i took on the green which i tend not to do on the hole as it usually ends up biting me on the backside!! anyway tee shot ended up 30 yards left of the green with the pin about 8 or 9 yards in, pulled out my sand wedge, picked a spot and the rest is history!! best buzz i have ever had on the golf course on 15 years!! any of my fellow golf shakers out here remember there first time!!! |

Well done Stewart. I still remember my first time about 5 years ago and the 2nd time about 3 months ago like it was yesterday Would love to get one on a par 5 with a putt and reaching the green in 2 but hey let's not get silly and be grateful for what we have |

I got my first one on the 17th at my home course, and have had a few since then. I hit a 5 wood as it is a 90 degree dogleg left, and got a good kick. Pulled another 5 wood from around 230 yards ish. Landed and rolled on the green around 6 foot from hole. Putted, and proceeded to high 5 the other 3 playing partners. That and my hole in one are the best feelings I have had on a golf course. |

still waiting on my ace, i must admit i was pretty subdued in my celebration although the look on my playing partners face was a picture, trying to be pleased for me but burning up inside!!! not sure if id be more happy with hitting the green in one and putting for my eagle or the way i did it last night! always sunday!!! |

Don't burst his bubble JP. I remember my first (and only). Twas at Belfairs playing with my dad. 2nd shot was a long iron over a brow with only the top of the flagstick visible. Complete fluke but it felt good nevertheless. I think the hole was 251 yds

My 1st ever eagle putt was on a 484yd par 5. Hot sunny day lots of roll. Got on the green in 2. 10yd putt. dropped in. Fantastic. The very next day had my 2nd eagle putt on a 460yd par 5. 3 putted. Never had an eagle putt in last 3 years. Never been on a par 4 green in 1. Anyone had an albertross? Dave CAC handed Geordie. |

Still never had one, came close a few times with a few putts lipping out on Par 5's. Finished an inch from the hole a few times on Par 3's, even hit the flag once. It will happen sooner or later, I hope! |

Mine was 3 weeks ago, Deangate Ridge, Hole 9, Par 5, 492 yards. I usually have a bad habit of fading left into the ditch on this hole but lined up in my normal position and hit an absolute peach down the middle about 240-250 with roll. Walked up and took my hybrid 3 rescue club out and hit a slight fade right to left (im a leftie) and to be honest lost sight of my ball in the sun. Walked towards the green and noticed a ball dead centre of the green about 14-15 yards right of the pin. I remember standing over it and being really chuffed that id be marking a guaranteed birdie on the card on a 2 shot hole for me. And as they say, picked the right line and the rest is history. Good times! |

3 Eagles .... 2 chip ins and the other from about 100 yards (more luck than judgement). Still await downing a putt for eagle! |

Had two eagle putts on Friday. 478, and 479 yard par 5's. On both in two, but didn't sink the putts, sadly only made one birdie. |

| 1st eagle was my 1st hole in one. 7 iron straight in the hole with no bounce.Had me my 1st albatross last year,256 yard 3 wood into the hole for a 2! Sadly it was in a bogey medal so it only got me 1 up on the course. |

Only had 1 eagle, that was last year at Whitburn. Hole 3, 331 yds downhill par 4 SI16. Hit my drive over the bunkers into the middle of the fairway, left me with about 50yds to the pin. As it was downhill all the way I took out my 7 iron and bumped it down and into the hole for eagle. I would feel much better and more honest if I could get an eagle on a par 5 as I think my bump and run was as much to do with luck as anything else. I've reached so many par 5s in 2, but my putting has always let me down. One day it will happen though. |

| Never had one, have occasionally come close more by luck than judgement apart from 6" away from a hole in one. Stuck one to within 18" from 150yds out on the 8th at the N v S but that's the one of closest I can remember.. |

| Had my first competitive eagle in the NvS Sunday stableford (for 5 points!). Par 5 14th hole at the Abbey. Downhill so plays shorter than the stated length, hit a good drive down the middle, solid utility club which looked on target, got to the green to find it on the fringe between the pin and greenside bunker and I actually holed the putt. Set me up for a second place finish on countback! |

| Still dreaming about my first Eagle. Par 4 15th at Stevenage Golf Course. Hit a sweet drive, then took a gentle 9 Iron from about 90 yds, which landed on the front of the green and rolled up the slope straight in ... magic. To celebrate I tossed the club in the air, raised my arms and turned to receive the applause, but the only person who saw it was mother brother, who was playing the same hole. Next time I played the same hole, I shot an 8, so the bragging rights were short lived. |
![]() Danny BrantHandicap : 18.2 Reply : Sat 14th Aug 2010 19:02 |
I couldn't have been playing 382 yesterday Darren. It was a 4 iron, then 9 iron. Had wind behind, and the fairways were running. I didn't really take too much notice of yardage. It's one of those courses you have to play upto the holes, rather than target golf. They are building a smart new clubhouse now. May have to take the plunge there. |

My first was June 2006 at South Shields - 350yd Par 4 2nd - 7 iron from approx 140 yards - heading towards the hole, but undulations meant you couldn't see it; had a good look round before looking in the hole; cannot recall any high 5's!!. Next from 278yds on par 5 on my own (3 years later).
2 this year - 75 yards & 20 yards, Still awaiting the hole in one eagle |

Ive had plenty but can remember the last one as it was so long ago.. 350 yard par 4 (yes a real par 4), there was ice on the ground and my tee shot scuttled up to the flag leaving me a tap in. Now that would have been a hole in one to celebrate! |

| Eagles to me are birds of prey, as it is such a long time since I last had one, but I am still regularly holing out shots from under 100 yards, usually for a six or a seven though. |

'The Eagle Has Landed' reminds me of Apollo 11. I honestly do not believe that a moon landing was then made as there is overwhelming evidence to the contrary. But that's a debate for another forum. Nowadays a golf eagle is not simply about golf skill as it has, in my mind at least, become almost a symbol of the unfair way in which golf courses now favour long hitters. For a big hitter a drive, a mid iron, and a single putt on a par 5 is not such a big deal. But, for a short hitter, an eagle is possibly just as difficult to achieve as it was 50 years ago. So for those of you who are not big hitters I personally say "Very well done!" for what you have achieved. |
![]() John PettittHandicap : 18 Reply : Sun 15th Aug 2010 12:39 |
My clubs two course have a total of six par fives, three of which I have hit in three, but not regularly, the other three I always need four shots to get to the green. The two par fives on the Waterloo can be hit in two shots by the longer hitters, but I have yet to see anyone hit the greens on the four par fives on the Wellington in 2 shots, as they are all 565 yards long. |

Never had an Eagle before, it would be nice to get one. I have only ever chipped in off the green once before which was a few weeks ago. The worst thing was, I chipped it off the top of a bank and rolled down the hill onto the green, I turned away to putt my club away and the lads said it was in.
Gutted. |

I've had two eagles, Both very different. The first was on the 4th at Brandhall par 4, just over 250. Crap drive(nothing new there then) left a 7 iron with 150 to the pin, So I slap the 7 and its catches the lip of the green side bunkers and rolls in... Jammy. The second eagle was on the PGA at the Belfry. Proper par 5, Slapped drive 260+ just short of the drink, slapped 5 iron to leave 96yards then a cheeky gap wedge which pitched once a foot from the pin and dropped straight in, Mr Perry will testify.... That was probably the best Golf moment I've ever and most probably I'll never experience that feeling again....... |

Had a couple of eagles, not in the last year or two, sadly. First one was on a very driveable short par-4 (maybe even shorter than 245!) - drove the green and holed a pretty long putt. Second one was on the short, downhill par-5 5th at KP Club in East Yorkshire (about 460/470 yards, I think, and a most welcome respite after the 600-yard uphill 4th!). Nailed a big drive over the brow of the hill and couldn't find it - we were looking at least 40-50 yards short of where we eventually stumbled across it. I think it must've hit something and took an extra-long kick because it was at the other side of a ditch and ended up being about 325 yards from the tee! Anyway, it left me just a wedge into the green and a 15-foot putt which would've been off the back of the green had it not hit the back of the hole and dropped in! A great feeling, as many of you have said. My playing partner got one last year at Broome Park in Kent. Downhill par-4, I think it's the 8th, about 330 yards. Hit a great draw off the tee which magestically curved back on to the fairway and kept on rolling until it eventually finished about 10 feet from the pin. Ironically, he'd been having a shocker up until then, and I think he got an 8 on the next hole! Funny old game... |

In 33 years of golf I have had a few eagles. Here are my favourite three My first was at Downshire GC circa 1979. it was on the 6th hole, a 356 yard dogleg left (it's now the 15th). I hit a drive over the bunkers protecting the corner and found myself about 90 yards out, in the middle of the fairway. We waited for the group ahead to clear and then I hit a 9 iron which landed on the front of the green and rolled up and dropped in. Sand Martins GC - on the par 5 18th, 512 yards off the white. This one stands out because I hit a monster drive with the wind behind and a draw which got the ball to un a mile as it caught the contours of the fairway. I then thought the wind had died so I laid up with a 4 iron because the green is protected by a narrow collar of fairway. But I got it wrong and spanked the 4 iron out of the sweet spot for probably the only time in my life. The ball ran up on to the green and I sank a putt of no more than 7 or 8 feet - in front of the club house and a busy bar patio - magic! John posted earlier that he hadn't seen anyone hit the par 5s at his club in two, well, here is the proof that it can be done! My last was at Sherfield Oaks 2 years ago, on the 7th hole of the Wellington course. It's a par 5 - 501 yards off the white, with OB on the right and the green protected by a lake. I hit a driver and a 3 wood to the centre of the green and then sunk a 12 foot putt across and down hill for the eagle. I almost managed it again on holiday this year on the 18th at Font del Llop. It's a par 5, downhill and 465 metres, which is about 508 yards. I creamed a drive over the brow of the hill and it ran for miles. My second was a 5 iron to the centre of the green (yes, that drive was huge, but wind assisted and geologically aided) and I missed the 30 foot putt for the eagle. Sadly I missed the 5 foot putt for birdie and ended up with a 3 putt par to close the round on what I believe to be the best course on the Costa Blanca |

My first, last, one and only, was at my local. I'd only been playing a few months, and started hitting my woods well. So I decided I was going to go for the green of our No;8 hole, par 4 left hand dogleg about 350 yards, it has a high hill and a large expanse of rough to cover, but you cannot err left or long as both OOB Pulled out 3 wood, aimed left knowing i'd fade into hole, lined up and shot beautiful fade, knew straight away I'd covered necessary ground but did;nt know what to expect when got around there. Was pleasantly surprised to find ball on edge of green about 10 feet from pin uphill. Read this putt to death, took a deep breath and straight and firm in middle of hole. Could'nt resist letting out a loud YES! combined with fist pumping. Then very sudden feeling of sadness, as, no-one witnessed it :O( Still, felt good. |

I've had 2 eagles, one on a par 5 at wakefield. chipped in from 120 yards with a 9 iron. Trouble was I thought the ball had stopped at the edge of the hole so I turned to put my club away and my mate said "it's gone in".. so I missed seeing it drop in. second was last year at Oulton Hall, hit a decent drive into the wind leaving 180 yards. hit my best 5 iron ever, straight at the pin. took one bounce and dissapeared. other than that I've had a few chances mostly at Temple Newsome. second hole 280 yards downhill. I've hit the green 4 or 5 times but never holed my eagle put. |

| Monday morning, 16th August 2010, 17th Hole at Sherdley Park. Having slightly pulled my drive I was left with around 80 yards to the flag and pulled out my fairly new attack wedge and gave it a 3/4 swing. I know it was good the moment i connected and thought I would have been within about 6 feet. As it bounced directly in front of the flag my heart jumped as i realised it was going in. The 3 old fella's who had just vacated the green all applauded. Felt unbelievable |
