Hi guys need some advice.... played golf yesterday and noticed the head on my 7 iron in bent back slightly from the hosle. Took it to my local course and was told the shaft could well be bent under the hosle. They said i could either try bending it back....ehh or a new shaft would be needed. The club in question is a Macgregor Mactec 685 and all it says onthe shaft is "mactec light weight micro steel 95 grams". What the hell can I do......it just had to be the 7 iron didnt it why couldnt it have been the 3 or PW???? |

2 options Mark.
1. Take the club to American Golf. They have fixed clubs of mine in the past 2. Google Macgregor and email asking them what to do |

Hi David, Tried the Macgregor website, they no longer trade. The website sends you to Golfsmith. |

Mark, I'd have done with it and get a new shaft. It's obviously damaged so any 'repair' will not undamage the shaft. You could end up with the club head flying off into the rough a couple of months down the line and throwing good money after bad is not the best of fun. |

my advice is don't go near American Golf unless you really know them. Instead take it to the local Pro shop at your nearest course and get them to fix it. You don't need to be a member, he'll probably replace the shaft plus new grip with the most suitable if like for like is not possible. he will be more trustworthy. I wrapped my Browning 8 iron around a conifer branch and it cost £15 for new shaft and grip, grip needed replacing anyway being my go-to club and most used. |

What's wrong with American Golf, Colin? I've had clubs re-gripped and re-shafted by them, many times, never had a problem and their prices and delivery time were better than my local clubs could do. |

As i said 'Unless you really know them' my experience of American Golf has left me disappointed with their knowledge on choosing right clubs for the individual. They just seemed bothered about selling any set regardless of suitability for what the buyer is looking for. Retail trade for you. Its down to whether you trust whoever you give the job too, to do exactly as you ask, and not try to fob you off with whatever they want to do so they maximise their profits. As for prices charged, ring around and get some quotes. Re-shafting etc. is not difficult, all you need to ensure is that you get the most suitable shaft. That is the most important matter. Thats all i meant John.

Colin. I agree about buying clubs, from them. But what I did, years ago, was to try out the clubs I was interested in. I spent best part of 3 hours trying out all combinations. Then went and bought a set that I liked from a cheaper source. But their after sales service is good |
