Custom fitting WHERE TO GO

Hi,

I thought I had bought custom fitted clubs two years ago, but recently having looked at about three custom fitting centres Mizuno, Ping and Taylor Made, I realised that the sales person who sold me my Talyor Made cgb's actually did not do anything.

When purchasing my new clubs back then, he told me to hit few balls with a 7 iron and then told me that these clubs were right for me as I am an average hitter and all that needed changing was the shaft length i.e. 1/2 inch shorter. He went off to adjust the shaft length on the clubs and that was it.

My game has been okayish but recently been having some teething problems. Playing with few lower HCP players have suggested getting a proper fitting done as the clubs may not be right for me.

Has anyone had this done the proper way and if so any recommendations?

Jagdeep, custom club fitting is pretty much a lottery in this country. Everyone claims to be an expert at it but there are very few experts, I can assure you. Everything is geared to sell you the new equipment.

Personally, If I were going down that road, I would go to a specialist clubmaker/fitter, although I can hit the same shots with whatever you put in my hand from a juniors cut down to a ladies club.

Oh stop it John I'm getting jealous - are you coming to my event on 1st October, would be good to see you and they do buggies!

I agree though all the sales people that tell you that a new set of clubs will make you better are jokers.  If you are honest with yourself and just fancy a new set of clubs fair enough but you can't buy a better game. - Well with the exception of my new nike 7 wood that is!!!

What on earth is a man of your power doing with a seven wood. Irons should be your forte.

I would love to come to your event on October the first, David, but I have a sick wife at the moment and I am therefore not thinking that far ahead, but if all is well then I would love to come.

JP - the 7 wood has a steel shaft and flies 190 with ease, much safer than my 3 iron during the winter at least.  I tend to go more lofted with my woods as I have a low ball flight, hence a 13 degree driver.

Hope the wife gets better soon, regards.

Thank you for your kind comments.

Its more about getting the right clubs. I tried a set of Ping G15 whilst in Dubai few weeks ago and they were great. They felt so much comfortable than my current set.

I will ckeck out the link as update my thoughts

Thanks again

my fav is the ORKA custom fit, i used a guy near milton keynes / silverstone

John was his name, went through everything and actually had a few on course trials to judge what shaft and lofts lies were needed

all in all the blades i bought are fantastic but not a big money grabbing brand

From personal experience you are much better off finding an independent club fitter who knows his stuff. Yes they are out there. Any one who  is attached to a club or a manufacturer will favor his own products on the other hand a true indipendent will advise what is best for you.

I have just purchased some clubs fron Derek (its make or break year for me). I haven't had much of a chance to use them yet, but I really like them. Hubby has also bought from Derek.
