how does playing in compertitions with max handicaps affect your real handicap. Just hyperthetical but say if your handicap is 24 and you play in a normal max allowence comp and you win with 38 points you should get cut. But what about if you play in a max 18 comp would you still have to score 37 points to get cut or since you have already have been dropped 6 shots for the compertition would somewhere around 31 points meen that your handicap is adjusted?
Hope you get what im asking as i dont think i put it across right |

| Handicap adjustments are always off full handicaps regardless of the playing handicap in a given competition |

Yes Darren's correct Matt in competitions full handicap is always considered for handicap purposes but the actual competition results only display the playing handicap for that event. I will have to check up though as I'm sure for Handicap Purposes a competition can't be an actual qualifier if a Minimum or Maximum Playing Handicap is imposed or if there is any reduction to a players handicap i.e. 3/4 of full handicap. |

| Just checked with Congu and any competition where a player receives less then their full handicap allowance is effectively a Non-Qualifying Competition for Handicap Purposes. |

| Matt the other factor to take into account is that when entering your scorecard on GS is that it allows you to put in what shots you were allowed, so although you have a 23.5 handicap if you played in a comp and wanted to enter your score on here there is a box that asks what strokes you had, you would then put in 18 and the system adjusts accordingly. |

One other thing Matt. If you forgot about scoring and concentrate on hitting the ball to where you want it, 2 things will happen. You will be concentrating on the only thing that matters, which is hitting the ball to the target and secondly the scores will provide themselves. Trying to score points is the worst thing an Amateur can do, just concentrate on being focused and hit the ball to the target.

Sorry whats ment by a qualifying compertition? I will use stroke play for example as its easier, all played on a par 72 course. comp A full handicap full allowence so 24 shots is i shoot 90 for example i have played 6 shots better than handicap. comp B full handicap 3/4 for example so id be allowed 18 shots and again i shoot 90 that would be level par for the comp but 6 better then my handicap. comp C max 18 3/4 so 14 shots and again i shoot 90 id be worse off in the comp but still better than handicap. in each scenario keeping everything equal and forgetting css and that. my handicap should be reduced. This is all entered in the clubs computer. Cheers wayne, i no longer add things up as im going round, if its doubles i let my partnet do the card, or if its singles i just right the number down and forget about it. Since I have started to do this my scores have got better. Theres less 8 appearing on the card, and even pars and birdies chucked in occasionally.

As an aside, I've never counted my score as I've gone round... I think it's because I watched sometihng on a David Leadbetter tape years ago advising against it so I never started (good habits and all that!). Also my wee iPhone scorekeeper scores one hole at a time and tkaes a bit of fiddling about to look back over the card so I never get to see my scores until the end of the round.

Matt a Qualifying Competition is one that fulfills all the CONGU Handicap Requirements and therefore the results of which effect your handicap. Because you've played a competition where there is a limit on playing Handicaps or your not receiving your full allowance it can not be a Qualifying Competition for Handicap Purposes so your handicap can't be altered up or down.
