A lot of talk on frozen golf courses, do you still play or give up as a bad job at this time of year ?

I answered 3 but may have to re-evaluate after rounds at Abbey and a few other courses of late. Not getting much pleasure from trapesing around muddy fields or hitting balls into frozen greens, and then when on the greens putting becomes a lottery.

I'll play as much as I can but will not Putt when the greens are iced up (Comps excepted). Even been know to get some Tennis Balls out in the snow. Anything to keep going.

I only pack the clubs away when the courses are covered in snow as they are now. Most clubs in my area now still hold qualifiers throughout the winter. I've had two at my home club, 4 at Belton Park this month. I've got 6 in January. So for us Amateurs there isn't really an off season now.

We have a pairs KO that runs during the Winter and Ladies, Men's and Junior Stablefords.  Any course closures have usually been short in the past, but we lost 3 weeks in February this year, and the course has been closed for the last week.  Having seen the likely temperatures for the coming 5 days, I expect we'll be playing again before the New Year.  We only hold 1 qualifying Stableford per month for December, January and February, and a rather popular Christmas Texas Scramble which had to be cancelled on Sunday, and will now replace the Men's Stableford on Sunday 4th Jan.

Generally speaking, I tend to get out on the course less when it's cold, but only course closures stop me playing altogether.  Next due out Saturday 26th and Sunday 27th if the course is open.

I was lucky today, the weather couldn't have been better. It actually got quite warm for a few  hours. But now it is starting to really freeze over. The clear blue skies, we had all day, have paved the way for a very cold night. Even at 3 o'clock the grass was frosting over.

Therefore that's me done with golf till after the festive season. My course is open and very playable. But..I'm a Southern softie and like to stay cosy and warm. Can't be doing with going out in this cold, not until it warms up to at least 7 or 8 degrees.

It's only about 6 weeks till the band of brothers meet in the warm Algarve. I can wait till then.

Merry Christmas everybody. And a Happy New Year

And if I've upset anybody this year. By whatever means. Then it's been worth it..

If the course is open then I play, if it's not I find one that is. He who dares wins!

This is the time of year I give my 5 sets of shoes a total clean up (including all the little grooves in the soles) and wax them.

I clean them during the year so the yearly MOT isn't a major job anyway but it makes me feel like I'm treating them to a bit of special attention.

Use my Mudskippers during the winter for two reasons, 1) they hold the ankles firm in the slippy conditions and 2) they are warmer

Gotta agree with Mr Flood, if the course is open, I'll play.

Just wish my course had better drainage, its like a mud bath at the moment.  Roll on the Summer months.

Carry on regardless, me.  Don't particularly like playing in mud, but frost is fine.  So if a course is open I'll go and play (except last weekend when I did Christmas shopping - and couldn't make the Ramsdale game, dammit).
