Darren A, I'm intrigued why you don't carry a 7 iron, can you really get consistent results within a few yds from the little 6/ big 8?

Talking of 7 iron distances........... Played 1st game in winter league at Allerton in Liverpool yesterday. 2nd hole, 2nd shot, 155 yards to centre of green according to marker posts. Pin slightly towards the front of the green, 7 iron comes out of the bag. 1 practice swing and then the shot for real. As the ball sailed through the air I could see it was smack in line with the pin and never moved either way. Couldn't help thinking to myself "I hope its big enough" as it made it's journey towards the green. Now you know when you watch the ball fall gracefully from the skies to land on the green for a makeable putt and all is well with the world.....well this shot did something I have never seen before and probably never will again. As it fell towards earth at great speed, the ball went clean through the flag stick breaking it into 2 pieces and leaving a pitch mark about 1 1/2" directly behind the hole. Snapped the darn thing clean in 2 about 18" from the bottom. Made the birdie though!!!!!!! Anything similar guys?

Sure that must be a penalty stroke of some sort, unlucky mate!

No Wayne I didn't thin it. Didn't feel the ball on the club face either!!!! I reckon it was because of the cold and the flagstick became more brittle. Probably a piece of plastic conduit instead of a real flagstick anyway. Funny though.

Chris B, did think of that but not great when you do a poll like

everyone would know how many votes they had.

How far do i hit my 7iron,(taking into account that there is no wind either way) i generally hit mine between 155-160 in summer and probably loose 10 yards maybe even 15 yards in winter. But who cares how far you hit a 7iron,the question should be how far do you hit your DRIVER. ps Ive got a mate who can hit a pitching wedge 150 yards with no wind assistance....!!!

bump seemed relevant given the Driver discussion

I hit my 7 around the 140-150 mark depending on the conditions. and its the most consistent club in my bag. regardless of how im playing i know i can go to the 7 and hit a shot to give me confidence and get my round back on track

Real 7 Iron? or one of these new TM/Callaway 5 Irons with a number 7 on the bottom?

I use letters t9+ irons so i assume thats a true 7

Shouldn't the question be : How close do you hit your 7 iron?
Reply : Mon 13th Jan 2014 12:09
might need to have a male/female tick box. 7 iron is my 125-130 club but that will be a lot shorter than the men.
