Are Blade putters legal???

I bought an old MacGregor 'bullseye' blade putter for $hits and giggles really....plus it looks nice......I think I could become an addict to buying old nice looking golf gear - don't tell the wife!

Now one question I have is that the putter can be used from both sides of the blade......now with my newbie golf brain, I thought that only clubs that you could only use one side were legal......hence those putter/chipper clubs are illegal???

I think it's the playing of to different shots that makes it illegal. Your bullseye putter is a putter on both sides.

I hope so, because I have a scotty cameron bullseye.

A Putter (Club with 10 degrees of loft or less) is permitted in the rules to have two striking faces so long as:

a) The faces are directly opposite each other.

b) Both faces share the same measurements and characteristics.

Chippers are more then likely deemed illegal because they have greater then 10 degrees of loft so can't be classed as a Putter.

which explains why they are called "Chippers"

Yeah but I'm thinking a putter with 10 degrees of loft will get the ball in the air some before it rolls, so I'd technically call that a chipper.

Well I took it out for a spin today, and actually after 10mins or so I got quite used to it. I was no worse than with my crappy Wilson. In fact I found the close putts alittle easier and I was able to judge the distance on the longer putts with more success. I'll give it a couple of weeks of use to see how I go.

I do like the feel of the weight of it in my hands....the brass head seems to move  smoothly back and forth.....my Wilson would sometimes snake on me on my backstroke........of course that is down to my technique, but I've never felt confident with it

I'm also actually left handed, but play golf righthanded for some reason....but I tried this club left handed (as it is two sided) and it was quite easy....didn't feel totally natural as I've never done it before - but wasn't as alien as I thought it would be.  Now I cannot even attempt a full swing with an iron lefthanded !!!! I look like what my wife looks like trying to play golf !
