Just finalising details for the above with Darren and wanted to let you all know it will be going live end of June. ( I know it's a surprise for you too Darren )

Venue will be the same every year at a brilliant rate (for the next one at least), but there won't be any dilly dallying regarding payment.

FURTHER UPDATES WILL BE POSTED ACCORDINGLY.

Starting 1st and 10th is not good in my opinion for a matchplay event as the SI could favour certain combinations on either side.

Thats true John.

Wayne, will it be matchplay OR stableford - not both?

We all have to play the same number of holes, on the same course. What does it matter what order you play them in?

It's a thought John to assist in reducing the possibility of 6hr rounds, and also allows for better travel time for everyone on the monday after the event. And if it favours certain combinations on either side is that not classed as equilibrium

It matters in Matchplay David as a round can sometimes be as short as 10 holes (you havent forgotten your game in the NvS???)

Sorry, David but the positions of the SI are very important. Just image you have to give a shot down the last, which would not have occurred if the match had been played from the first tee.

We don't all have to play the same number of holes, you should know that playing only 12 last time the match was played.

No..You are quite right John and Dennis

Wasn't thinking...Sorry

If the main criteria is for shorter rounds then perhaps the match should be foursomes, because then the pair not actuall playing the shot will be halfway down the fairway and these games are normally very quick.

Of course playing an individual competition in with a team matchplay event was asking for trouble in the time stakes.

Any clue on the venue?  I know the North is officially due it's turn but there was talk of a midlands even so central for all.

I believe this is still up for debate Martin.

As it is still a year away we have plenty of time for finalising details - rumours are it will be good.

Although it is good every year no matter what the venue or result from what I hear!

Martin. There is a venue in the pipeline, and it will be confirmed soon. Just going to be checked out to see if it is suitable.

I.E. Checking the course, accomodation etc etc.

Technically though. The first two N v S matches were held up North. But because we beat them, they are now bleating and want it held a bit further up...

It will be midlands based and within reasonable travelling time, It will also only be Matchplay as I have already stated, there will be no individual scoring.

I am happy to go with the flow regarding one tee or two, there are arguements for both and of course it does depend on the spread of SI, for those who played Mottram Hall can verify, if you didn't score on the front nine it was considerably harder on the back.

But as I said there is plenty of time to decide.

Finally are entrants aware that clicking the link "I'm interested" means that they are not actually registered, and i apologise if this sounds patronising but some members were not aware of this.

Wayne, are you referring to me at Mottram ?  21 on the front 9 and 8 on the back    didn't you wear a sombrero that day

Some history ................

1st event was held at Hollins Hall, 20mins off J19 of the M1 and hence a central location for the first event

2nd year was held North ish at Belton Woods near Grantham due to the links to the South via the A1 and M1 ish.  Reason for venues was that the North won the first year

3rd year Wokefield park down South.  Consensus at the 2nd year was that it should alternate North and South similar to the Ryder Cup.

4th year  ......................  the consensus at Wokefield for 2010 was to just hold centrally so both teams travel equal distance

Hope this helps.  I could bore you with some more history on the reasons for the combined matchplay and stableford comps but I won't    as long as it's stated that it's a match play only event well in advance then all is fine.

Definately Hellidon Lakes for the first venue, unless John Flood was using his GPS, er, 180 miles to the centre of the 1st green...

I'm up for the Algarve David!

Well Wokefield Park was litterally around the corner for me (and some others on here like John Pettit) so this years venue was ideal as a first taster for me.

I guess we are always going to get some people that need to travel more than others though so a central location would be most suitable for most.

Well, Hellidon was pretty central, it's got a bar overlooking the 18th green and it's a bum clenching par 3, got a decent hotel/spa etc:  Could do worse than that.  Have heard it's improved since it changed ownership but haven't been back since the first N v S.

PS - will let you know later today David

But guess who got beat? Even though they were 5 up at one point.

And all they have moaned about for 2 years was wanting revenge.

So we kicked their butts again this year.

Be interesting to see if they want to give it another try

OK Darren..

Got two places left to fill...And two faffers that might or might not play.

Come Monday the places will be filled, as we have two others that want to play. But we are holding the places for the two faffers. But if the two faffers persist in faffing. then they can faff off.

One of the faffers has come back and said that they will still be faffing on 18th. Even though they have a score to settle.    ....You crack me up Tim.

So that's one place now filled by one of the standbye's. One more faffer to hear from. 72 hours left, and counting.

Sorry, I'm in the North v South.  Looks very unlikely that I will make Sherfield.  I've got two job offers on the table and the one I'm likely to take wants me to start on 18th May (sods law).  I have a second interview Tuesday too though and I woudl consider that too but they wouldn't want me to start until after my honeymoon.

Head is good John, wasn't too bad to be honest.  I haven't got the picture you allude to above but I'm sure it won't be long before it appears on here as Mr Williams has a copy......
