We have formed a golf company called iGolf (www.igolf.cc) which is designed to give golfers that play between 15 and 25 rounds of golf per year value for money versus the alternative of having to join a members club. We have 11 clubs in the group so far in Kent, Essex, Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire, Herefordshire, Glamorgan, Carmarthenshire and Pembrokeshire, with new clubs being signed up at a rapid rate now. iGolf members are affiliated CONGU members, and can play in competitions at some of the clubs as well as competitions that we are going to put on across the country...... |

The concept is sound, Ian but no way can you call it discount golf. Playing Sat and Sunday mornings, like most working people like to do is going to cost 18 credits, 72 credits for the month, which equates to 7 x £30 = £210 plus £10 for the month to igolf. Even the 25 rounds a year guys assuming all played at peak times, will pay more over a year than a club member. |

Ian, Please don't take this as a knock But i really dont see the point, the courses are hardly local to each other. with the most expensive deal working out that if you play at peak times, like most folks £22.70 a round. I can pay that and cheaper anyway? |

My Membership at the belfry works out like this. P.G.A. National & Derby sundowner 7 days. Tee off after 11:00 winter & 13:00 summer. £660 per year paid in 3 installments of £220 throughout the year. I play at least twice a week at the moment, hoping to up that now as the daylight gets longer so for value for money with no joining fee i cant be bad. This igolf works out to double that?????? |

Guys - I think a dose of reality is needed here: If you are going to play at weekends, at peak times, you are not going to get any discounts. If you also play more than 20-25 times a year, then nothing will offer you a better deal than a traditional club membership. The igolf scheme is intended for people that do not play enough golf to justify the cost of membership and can be flexible with the time of play, i.e. Weekend afternoons. A typical £40 weekend greenfee club (with membership subs of approx £1000) will offer tee times of £30 to igolf members that can play at off-peak times. Doing the maths on that, for 20 rounds, the overall igolf cost will be £720 versus £1000. Of course, there's more to club membership than just reduced greenfees (competitions and social activities) but there are an awful lot of golfers who are members of clubs that play up to 25 times a year, do not play in competitions and do not care for taking part in the club's social functions.......for them igolf is ideal and offers the flexibility to redeem their credits at different clubs. As far as the scheme is at the moment, we fully recognise that some of these clubs are quite remote from each other, but we signed up 4 new clubs in South Wales last week and are working hard on expanding the program. It's difficult at times to get clubs to realise that times are changing....... Ian |

| Clubs are realising that times are changing, well round here they are anyway. Most of them have dropped there joining fee and reduced there annual memberships. My course now do a full 7 day contract for £420 a year. With my friends also being members at other courses we have a variety of venues to play and at weekends because we are playing with members the greenfee is around the £10 mark. Assuming I play twice a week on my home course and every other weekend I play away for one of the two games, I still only spend £680 ayear for unlimited golf and around 7 or 8 different courses. Happy the way it is at the moment. |

| Ian what clubs in South Wales are they? Woodlake Park are offering a similar type of deal to thier members who don't play all year and to new members , you pay £200 = 200 points and you're a full member entitled to play in comps at weekends. I think the green fees workout at £15-£20 on a weekend. |

Dave, The clubs in Wales that have signed up this week are Glyn Abbey (membership basis), Radyr, Southerndown and Gower (all three greenfee basis only). There are at least 3 others that I am working on right now, but not at liberty to disclose them until they say they are 100% wanting to proceed. Ian |

Dave, Well, it looks like you play a lot of golf, so the scheme would not be good value for you. Much better to stay at Radyr as a home club member and then to join the County Card scheme. That option is not available to people playing less than 25 rounds a year, since they have to be a fully paid up member of a club first, so at 25 rounds for £800, that works out at more than £32 per round. Radyr is a good track. Southerndown too, although always very windy and a real challenge that is very very hard for higher handicaps. In terms of the official announcement about Radyr, just watch the www.igolf.cc space. Ian |
