Hi all. Just doing some site updates, tweaks and improvements and would welcome your thoughts.

Question - What tees do you play from ?

Trying to get a generic set like below, anything unqiue or obsure in some parts of the world ?

Generic - Blue, Black, White, Yellow, Red, Gold, Champ

Watch out for some more questions, hopefully all aimed to improve the site for you.

Regards, Darren.

We play whites for club comps and yellows for social rounds and the gals play off red.

But we don't have any others....

Cheers for the constructive reply Colin.  I would have said 'What tees do you play off' for the ambiguity

Generally Yellows, Whites play I play in the Saturday Comps/Socials at my home club.

Have to say I think anyone with a handicap of 18 or under should be allowed to play of the Whites at ALL clubs and under 10 off the Blacks or back Tee's.

The reason for the above is not because I'm being snobbish but at some decent courses (that have rough/gorse before the fairway) you need to hit a drive around 200-220yds to get on the fairway and higher handicappers would be suffering un-necessarily before they even started.

Yellows for social play & whites for comps (at my course) & blues for comps (at other courses).

Wayne, our course only allows 5 & below handicaps to play off the whites in general play which I think is unfair because they are getting use to these tees & when a comp comes around they have had loads of experience.

I'm not sure about your 18 & below to be able to play off the back tees??? This game is getting slower by the week & we don't want it to get any slower by having various groups playing off different tees??

John.

Ha ha Perry!

I've only ever played off the yellows, not a member of a club so never get the chance to play off the white competition tees.  Looking at the whites at some of the places I've played at recently I just realise that the game is hard enough just where I am, thanks...

Read it properly John, for the Blacks I've stated 10 or under

Wayne,

I was just using your comment for the majority of courses where they only have 3 sets of tees, RED, YELLOW & WHITE.

John.

C'mon John get with it.........if the majority of courses only have the WHITE as it's back Tee then it's not going to be overlong to get to the fairway so anyone under 18 handicap is going to reach them

White for comps , yellow for social, reds for ladie's, blue for juniors although mostly juniors just play off yellow anyway and the distance they can drive a ball they should be off whites.

Wayne,

Come & play my course & I'll show you the 5th off the Whites, it's an extra 70yrds back & it's all tree-lined. For the love of god I can't make the the fairway as I always pull hook my shot to try & hit it harder.

Take your point on board though

John.

Like most of the others we play off yellows for general/friendly play and off whites in comps and matches at my club.

I sympathise with John concerning slow play if all players off less than 18 h/cap played off the whites, but the difference in length between the yellows and whites varies from course to course. And on my course we have a par 3 which is about 160 yrdds of the yellows and 220 yrds off the whites with an extra pond between the tees! So having successive groups playing off yellows and whites would be an absolute nightmare and very dangerous.

My personal preference is to play off the whites as all courses are designed to be played off the whites and as a consequence you find that most courses actually play better off the whites. I might add that I don't have a real problem with length off the tee, so might be a bit biased!

I play off the yellows on the longer courses and off the whites (with permission) at my local course which is particularly short.  It is 500 yards longer from the white tees and two holes get entirely different tee boxes.

I play off the daily tee ... whatever colour the course chooses to signify those.  Most courses I've played it is yellow, but some it has been blue (with a white comp tee) and another it has been white (with no additional tee for comps).

Whites are competition tees, yellows are the regular/social playing tees and reds for the laydeeeeees!

Obviously play off the yellows most of the time. Played a few comps off the whites and quite literally babbed myself as some of them are waheeey back!!!

My Club only has 3 sets of tees - White for Men's Official Comps only, Yellows for general play for the Men, and Reds for all Ladies games, whether official Competitions or general play.  If the winters get really wet, we have mats at all the holes which everyone plays from, but these haven't been used for a few years, apart from at a few individual holes (usually the par 3's).

As I've just come back form the States, most Clubs there have up to 6 tees, and usually ask you to play off them according to your handicap.  One example was:-
Gold Tees - handicaps 0 to 4 - Men only
Black Tees - handicaps 5 to 9 - Men or H/c 0 to 4 for Women
Blue Tees - H/c 10 to 15 for Men or 5 to 9 for Women
White Tees - H/c above 16 for Men or 10 to 15 for Women
Silver Tees - H/c 16 to 24 - Women only
Red Tees - H/c above 25 - Women only.

Other courses in the States told us to pick our tees according to the length of our home course, which is what we decided to do at all the courses, so we chose tees giving us around 6200 to 6600 yards total course length.

At my club we have White, Yellow and Red tees.

White for the comps, yellow for social and red for the ladies.

As a member I normally play off the White tees whenever I play.

Wayne,

Your beginning to sound like a broken record now mate! Yes i am inconsistent off the tee as with most amateurs, but i'm currently working damm hard to rectify this problem.

I would like to thank you for your continuous reminder of this fault, as i "drives" me on to succeed in my goal!!

i play off yellow tees

the ladies play off red tees

Reds for Laideez.

Yellow for normal.

Whites for comps.

I always play from the whites unless I am playing with a guest as they are not allowed. Some holes are 50 yds longer from the whites!
