Jamie Armstrong![]() Handicap : 24 Location : ![]() Posts : | Reply : Wed 17th Sep 2008 09:27 I have found that I tend to slice if I do one of four things. 1. If I haven't got the ball far forward enoguh in my stance. If I'm not playing well I tend to push the ball further to my left, even past my foot, so that I'm making sure the swing is complete at impact. 2. I'm trying to hit the ball. I think I drive quite well because it's the one shot I really don't think about the ball in at all. Just the arc of the swing and the ball just happens to be in the way. 3. I try to swing to hard. Always tempting to go for more distance, but it never really works. We've got a hole with a lake on it at my course, and the distance to clear it is quite a test, and so we often try it as a bit of a driving challenge. I remember putting everything I had into a shot to try to clear it, and landing it just short, and actually held up this side of the water. Then I played my 'live' shot to count for the round, played relaxed and put it about 5 yards past my attempt at smacking the skin off it. Taught me to forget trying to smack it too hard just yet. 4. Don't know what this one is, but I know it exists because I can make sure I get the first 3 right, and it still happens, but it's getting more and more rare. |
Mark Fed![]() Handicap : 28 Location : ![]() Posts : | Reply : Wed 17th Sep 2008 10:27 well I suffered simliarly and took a lesson from a teaching pro... we worked on getting my set up right - arms hanging vertically from shoulders as i was playing with over straightened arms and we also worked on visualising hitting at the furthest edge of the ball as my line of attack was too inside meaning i was hitting the inside of the ball Best advice - take a lesson... |
Jonny P![]() Handicap : 11.2 Location : ![]() Posts : | Reply : Wed 17th Sep 2008 10:40 Arms hanging vertically? You don't want that when driving surely? You want them going out towards the ball. Aiming for the outsdie of the ball? You certainly don't want that either. I think this shows that lessons really depend who you go with; you can't slice a ball by hiting it from "too inside" - a push slice yes but a slice no For 99% of players a slice is becasue they hit the outside of the ball which starts the ball left of target and brings it back like a bananna. If the clubface is open it will end up right of target; or if it's square it will sllce but still fall somewhere down the intended line.

Mark Fed![]() Handicap : 28 Location : ![]() Posts : | Reply : Wed 17th Sep 2008 11:27 J P your points are generally valid but i was over reaching for the ball in my address and I was hitting a push slice - ball started straight then went awol right my main point was intended to be TAKE A LESSON |

Tremayne Darnell![]() Handicap : 21.6 Location : ![]() Posts : | Reply : Thu 18th Sep 2008 22:49 i used to slce everthing with my graphite driver i went back to steel shaft and that has sorted the problem. i also set the ball slightly towards to the heel of centre. try this. |

Ashley Paddon![]() Handicap : 28 Location : ![]() Posts : | Reply : Fri 3rd Oct 2008 21:43 Hi, Don't know if this is of any use, but I was informed by a guy this morning, after I was batting a few horribly off to the right, that maybe my driver was not suited for me. He gave me a different driver to try, and they started going straight most of the time. The driver in question had an off-set head. Maybe this is worth considering???? |

John Houghton![]() Handicap : 22 Location : ![]() Posts : | Reply : Mon 6th Oct 2008 15:45 Alex Have you sorted you slicing problem? If and when I slice with my driver straight away I know its because Ive left the club face open at impact. If I can remember to let my hands 'snap over' right hand moves over left at impact then i dont slice John |
Steven Watmore![]() Handicap : 12.4 Location : ![]() Posts : | Reply : Thu 9th Oct 2008 10:40 I used to slice my driver so stopped using it for a while and used my 3 wood to see if it was club specific. after 5 years and as many drivers i bought an offset driver and all is well. i'm not suggesting a new driver but more to work out if it's problem with that club only. If it is stay with a 3 wood and hit some fairways |
