When I'm not playing golf and losing my balls I work for Worcester YMCA - a homeless hostel that houses and support up to 75 residents 24hrs 365 days of the year.

I'm organising a charity golf day to raise money for the YMCA (specifically to decorate and equip a tv room for the residents) and wondered if anyone wanted to put a Golfshake Team in?

Teams of 4 are required.

£150 per team which includes 18 holes of golf, coffee on arrival, 3 course meal at the end, plus trophy for winner, nearest the pin, and longest drive competition.

Wednesday 15th October 12noon first tee off at Ombersley Golf Course, Worcestershire.

Also, if anyone has a local business and would like to sponsor a hole, or would like to make a donation then feel free to PM me.

It would be great to meet some of you guys at last!

Should have mentioned that it will be a Stableford competition, and of course, Golfshake handicaps will be recognised!

Would it be a team stableford as well like other charity events I've played in?  Could also do with a Golfshake representative as well really.  Luke, you out there?  May also have to see about some team shirts....

Very generous Chris, but we'll see. I generally donate a lump every year to a good cause anyway, might as well have a bit of fun with it this year, as I've done the local hospice and the air ambulance previously.  As it's a business thing I'm obviously open to large backhanders for the honour of team representation!

Have been looking at some customised team golf polo shirts, anyone got any preferances for colours?  Nohing flashy, just the company logo a foot wide across the back....Only joking, but as I usually play in black it may be a bit somber for some - no names - and I'd rather not go for red. 

OK, I will enter two teams - 3D Cubed 'A' and 3D Cubed '1' , diplomatic eh?  Just one problem, there appears to be 9 prospective players and I don't really want to just drop one.  Any suggestions or anyone not sure they can make it?

Have also had another idea for raising a bit of cash - how about having a sweep for other members of the site along the lines of Dave's original balls thread - say nearest to the total shots for both teams, amount of balls lost, total amount of expletives shouted....?  If anyone has any interesting suggestions I'll start a new thread.

OK, Dave, that's 2 teams from me, all confirmed.  Just down to me to sort out the team selections and see about some shirts - I'll see if I can blag some stuff from the local promotions shop around the corner. 

And another thought Dave, is it a formal dinner afterwards?  Any excuse to get the whistle out...

Suit's are not required Tim - its not that formal - but entirely up to you. Ombersley is certainly a nice clubhouse and you wont look out of place tarted up!

After looking at the discussions on the Ryder Cup thread the choice of teams is going to be interesting - the two Johns in the same team to carry on their discussion?

I never have or never will carry grudges. I'm sure there will be future discussions where I disagree with people. When I'm out on the course the only thing I'm interested in is having a good time & enjoying whoever's company I may be in.

OK, based purely on distribution of handicaps I've come up with the following teams - please feel free to hurl insults at me publicly or privately.  I may change them on a whim anyway depending on a) whether there are team prizes and I want to be a glory hunter, b) I need an ad-hoc lesson or c) I fancy a chat with someone who is in the other team:

I'm always happy to play and I look forward to an enjoyable round with Tim and Chris, we could probably be called the engineers as I have an engineering background and David does. Should be a geat day, and whats more we have a month for the weather to improve!!

No I intend to be conservative that day, as the winter approaches my happy demeanour starts to waiver and so does my sense of humour so no-one should feel awkward playing with me then.

Plus unless i win the lottery I can't afford to keep buying outfits (god I have more than the missus) I need to start saving for Febs trip to the algarve

after checking the size chart an XL is the size for me. any colour will do. i like john's suggestion of 2 different colours per team.

blue and white are two of my favourite colours, its just a shame they were wasted on a pile of s...e football team, anyone in Hull will tell you gold n black are winning colours check the history books! nevermind mate!

I think you will find that Hull City play in black and amber, not black and gold Paul.  Only rubbish teams supported by inbred social rejects play in gold and black...........

I'm in the US now, coming back Saturday.  I'm back out here 20th October for a week and don't expect to back until 2009.

I have the R7's & have found them to be an all round solid club.

John i,d considered the R7 TP irons, but having seen the Taylormade tour burner tp's my heart as been won over, having researched them they can be used by both low &mid-high handicappers. At the back of my mind the titleist ap2 keep giving me a wink!!!! too many choices....kid in a sweet shop!

John, your shoes are now in the UK.  Must admit, they look very nice.  Shame they're not my size.

Paul - Doesn't matter a toss what you like the look of.  I liked the look of the TM Burner XD's when I was looking.  As soon as I struck a ball with them I had changed my mind - they felt 'clunky'.  I'd also never liked Mizuno's, but loved the MX25's wen I tried them. 

In an ideal situation, you would do a blind test - bet the one's you decided on would surprise you!  Keep an open mind, try as many as you can and try not to get sucked in by the logo or sales pitch.  That way you will end up with the club that you like the best and suits your game.

I wont be losing any balls next week mate, as an aside, I'm scheduled to get there around 8:30 so I can miss the traffic through B/Ham.

Hmmm, that sounds like a plan.  I'm only 45 mins away so was going to set off around 10:00.  Now, do I go for an extra couple of hours in bed or a brekkie.  Tough choice. 

You do know that the time to avoid going past Brum from up your way is 7:15 until 9:00 don't you Santo?  If you want to get to Ombersley for 8:30, you'll be in the worst of it.  Can I suggest hitting Brum for around 9:00, which will get you to Ombersley by 10 and miss the traffic too?

I'm leaving home at 6am, the journey (google earth, multimap & AA road map) say it will take a total of 2hr 3mins at the relevant legal speed limits.

As I will be travelling at those speed limits I'm sure i'll miss most of the crap for that area.

I'm undergoing intense hot water bottle treatment as I tweaked my back at the range last night.  Felt like I'd been kicked by a horse (I know how this feels because I have experienced it).  Sore as hell but better this morning.  Hopefully I'll be OK. 

Get the excuses in first, eh, Perry.  Well I impaled my left little finger on some barbed wire last week, I've got tetanus and my whole arm has swollen up because of the septascemia, but I'm not making excuses....

OK, and here is the first sweepstake.  The shirt company phoned this morning, they haven't finished them yet, but a nice sounding young lady has just promised to drop them off at the golf club tomorrow morning at 10.30. How many people think a) this will actually happen and b) what are they going to look like when (or if) they turn up.....  

I'll have a pound that they won't turn up, and I'll put my pound in for the "Number that wish they'd asked for a different size" sweep with three. 

Shall we have an agreement on team colours to bring just in case the don't show up?  I can do white, navy blue or a nice orangey colour.

Just trying to level off everyone's expectations John.  I think removing the monkey has altered my swing and that's how I've hurt myself. 

It'll be a weird one for me tomorrow.  As we're off ¾ handicaps, I'll be off 17.  For the first time, I won't get a shot on one of the holes.  I actually need to gross par it!  Hope it's not on a par 3 because I'm having a nightmare on those at the moment. 

A) no they won't turn up.

B) wrong sizes, different shade, etc.

but don't worry about "B" cos "A" ain't going to happen.

The whole day was fantastic, the event was well supported, the course was very nice and it remained dry all day. The evening meal was excellent, nice piece of roast beef and the two Teams entered by Tim finished tied first but the sneaky second team won it on countback. An excellent result when one considers that Kevin H knocked it round in 76 and our own inimitable David L shot a very creditable 78.

Wayne won the longest drive and a good one it was too, John F won a years supply of chocolate in the raffle, so he will be favourable looked on when he gets home tonght.

Paul Cook had the round of his life and is now officially classed as a Bandit scoring 41 points off threequarters handicap.

I am sure that Dave Knatt feels it was a success and lets hope that they raised enough money to do what they planned at the Hostel.

Can't really add anymore than John has except to say as usual the company was fantastic.

John has summed it up pretty well.  It's a sneaky bugger of a course and I would play it differently next time (might explain my shocking score!).  Not sure what the total lost ball count was or who came last (Dave, any ideas?).  If the team will have me next year, I'll definitly be back to try to exact revenge on John F, John P, Santo and Bandit Boy for nicking it on countback. 

Having organised an event and knowing how painful it can be, a big well done goes out to Dave for organinsing a well run event.  Great event and I'm sure that if it runs again next year the support will be even better. 

Superb day. Company was good which made the golf secondary on the day. Listening to John P's nuggets of nostalgia was the highlight for me. John P also proves you don't have to knock it miles to play & score well in this game.

I look forward to defending our title in July.

Great day and as usual great company, especially the rivalry between the two teams.  Good course for a competition, but reckon everybody could have scored better with a bit more course knowledge.  Had a pang of guilt (between 9.36 and 9.37 last night) that the Golfshake members frankly cleaned up on the day, rather embarisingly in the raffle as well.

So here's a challenge.  Hopefully I'll be able to enter the same two teams next year personnel and finances permitting - so how about Golfshake and Golfbreaks taking us on?  Or anyone else fancy a pop at the 3D Cubed superstars.

I'd just like to say thanks to Dave for organising such a cracking event and to Tim or the sponsorship, shirts, etc.

It was a great day with great company and lots of niggling banter, and I'm definitely up for it agaun next July, and like the idea of having more Golfshake teams entered.  I for one would be more tan willing to pay for my 1/4 of a team if necessary.
