But the second and third swing looked sweet. I don't fancy your chances getting any distance with the final swings with the driver, I think that big blue barrier will hinder your ball flight somewhat. ;-) |

Having just had my first two lessons ever, and taken receipt of the so far excellent book 'Swing like a Pro' i've realised that there is quite a lot wrong with my swing .. which is great news! The reason i say its great news is that i'd got to the stage where I was starting to think that i was swinging to the best of my ability and still not doing anything special with the ball or knocking in low 80s or 70s rounds. So im now filled with motivation to hit the range again. I can't stress enough that reading good books and getting lessons is imperitive at all stages of development, not just the start. The next thing i'll be working on after developing a better address routine, is my transition, or lack thereof. For those that havent read the book, the Transition is the part of the backswing from where the club shaft is past the vertical to where it is horizontal and the downswing 'begins'. The Transition is where this book teaches that - the hips begin to turn towards the target while the upper body continues to rotate away from it. This is where the pros coil that huge amount of elastic energy that most golfers dont. Instead I just get a weird neutral feeling as my whole body stops rotating and then starts rotating the other direction. Im less interested in the power that this will bring to be honest, and more in the fact that i'll be able to get the same distance with less effort and be able to square up the clubface better due to less muscling the swing. Having just stood here in this room air-swinging i can immediately tell if i improve my transition, i'll also get my tempo back. So my thought for the day is, check your transition, its apparently the part of the golf swing that most sets the pros apart from the rest. And having read that, I wonder why I've never been told to do it before. |
