Lee Miller![]() Handicap : 25.8 Location : ![]() Posts : | Posted : Mon 5th May 2008 20:31 High Handicap competition? I cannot be the only person playing in the Midlands with a high handicap (28) who wants to play more golf and indeed even enter a competition but is always put of by max handicaps of 20, high green fee prices at courses miles away and having to endure watching others drill the ball to perfection every shot. I want to know if anyone is intrested in a "Hackers Comp"?? A pure enjoyable round at a nice muni course (Western Park Leics maybe) where us high handicappers can enjoy a decent game of golf with others who know how easy it is to shank, top, slice and lose a ball. Im thinking a date in July. Let me know if anyone is intrested and I will arrange it. Lee |
Dave Knatt![]() Handicap : 27.7 Location : ![]() Posts : | Reply : Tue 6th May 2008 10:53 I love the idea Lee! Do I count with my low handicap??? I'm still fighting with the wife to allow me more time on the course (I currently play twice a month) but would be interested dependent on venue and date. Any closer to Worcester would be helpful too! |
Chris Perry![]() Handicap : 23 Location : ![]() Posts : | Reply : Tue 6th May 2008 12:01 I'd be up for that Lee. A comp that I have a chance of not coming last in!!! I think you should have a handicap of 25 or more to be allowed to play Can I suggest one of the Birmingham Muni's? Hatchford Brook (next to the airport) is always in great condition and is fairly straightforward or Hilltop (just off J1 of the M5), which is a little more challenging but again in good condition. |
Michael Firek![]() Handicap : 26.3 Location : ![]() Posts : | Reply : Tue 6th May 2008 14:55 I would be up for that. I've only just started playing really and I don't have a handicap yet. Does that allow me in? I live near Cambridge but would be willing to travel to leicester. |
Tim Hawkins![]() Handicap : 21.5 Location : ![]() Posts : | Reply : Tue 6th May 2008 15:49 There already is such a competition Lee. It's called the North v South. Seriously though, you should consider one of the Golfshake events, you'll come across lots of good (and bad) players who are helpful, friendly and good for your game - bit rich I know from someone who's struggled down to 20 (and now climbing). I can almost guarantee you won't be last! |
Lee Miller![]() Handicap : 25.8 Location : ![]() Posts : | Reply : Tue 6th May 2008 17:43 Thanks for the intrest Dave, Chris and Michael I will leave the message up til Monday and see who else is intrested and then we can decide when and where. L like the idea of handicap between 25-36 its kinda like the LDV vans trophy of Golf. I have a friend who is also intrested and plays off 27/28 so if we get say 8 players it would be worthwhile. Tim I will check out the North versus South.

Chris Perry![]() Handicap : 23 Location : ![]() Posts : | Reply : Tue 6th May 2008 20:19 The brother in law and his best mate play with me every Sunday and we're about the same standard. I'm sure they'd be up for it (subject to work commitments) I can see it now, Chris Perry, Golfshake Autoglass Trophy winner 2008....... |
Lee Miller![]() Handicap : 25.8 Location : ![]() Posts : | Reply : Tue 6th May 2008 20:40 HA HA! WE SHOULD ASK THEM TO SPONSER US... OK CHRIS THAT SOUNDS GREAT WE COULD END UP WITH A DECENT LITTLE COMPETITION. NEED A LIST OF WHERE IS TO BEST TO PLAY SO ITS KINDA CENTRAL FOR EVERYONE. WORCESTER,LEICESTER,BIRMINGHAM,CAMBRIDGE. TAMWORTH? IF ANYONE HAS ANY SUGGESTIONS LET ME KNOW. |
Peter Wilson![]() Handicap : 22.5 Location : ![]() Posts : | Reply : Fri 9th May 2008 01:36 Is 24.6 too far out into bandit territory to be allowed into this elite competition? (I'm based in Sheffield but Leicester/Tamworth are reachable for the odd game). Cheers, Peter |

Peter id be happy with you joining on 24.6. How does everyone feel about Sun 15 June @ Tamworth? Chris could you ask your non-golfshake friends. |
Philip Belcher![]() Handicap : 28 Location : ![]() Posts : | Reply : Sat 10th May 2008 20:22 Hi i am in Manchester, i would be willing to travel as a once in while event. keep us up to date, if i can i will make it, rather be just noth of Birmingham, Tamworth ok, the new toll road helps. Nice Idea

He'll register his mate as well. They're both off 28. I'll let you know about the other after we've played this weekend. Any news on tee times, price, etc? Better get a bacon buttie before we start!!! |
Lee Miller![]() Handicap : 25.8 Location : ![]() Posts : | Reply : Tue 13th May 2008 11:23 got the info: Had to book the 29th June as the 22nd was fully booked up. Apoligies if this messes anyone around. Its £21 for tea/coffee and a bacon roll and 18 holes. First tee off is 11.00am (so its not too early for those out sat nite) with what will be 4x4balls. I have 11 confirmed at the moment. (some not on golfshake) Hopefully next week when i get the 16 I will confirm all the details with everyone. |

Lee Miller![]() Handicap : 25.8 Location : ![]() Posts : | Reply : Tue 20th May 2008 17:31 HI PAUL ITS ABOUT 40 MINS FROM NOTTINGHAM ITS SOUTH DOWN THE M1 AND THEN A42. (POST CODE IS B77 4EG IF YOU WANT TO GOOGLE MAP / SAT NAV IT.) I HAVE HAD LOTS OF INTREST (21 PLAYING) AND FOR MOST OF THE PEOPLE IT WILL BE FIRST CHANCE AT A COMPETITION WITHOUT ANY PRESSURE. LET ME KNOW IF YOU ARE INTRESTED BY ADDING YOURSELF IN THE GROUPS/EVENTS SECTIONS. TIM - DO YOU WANT ME TO PENCIL YOU IN? |
Danny James![]() Handicap : 18.4 Location : ![]() Posts : | Reply : Tue 20th May 2008 19:55 bloody typical. on me doorstep and my h'cap is too low?!?!?!?!. I can't beleive that. if you need to make up numbers for any reason, let me know and I would play. I would play just for fun. I have a mate who must play off 28 or so, he would play. |
Colin Astbury![]() Handicap : 19.9 Location : ![]() Posts : | Reply : Tue 20th May 2008 21:52 Sounds like a great idea for a comp. Too far away for my budget but i would've played had it been nearer. May i suggest that as there will be so many high handicappers that you play stableford and pick up after 8 to speed things along or 2 ball better ball. Otherwise you might find your in for a 6 hour round if your in the back 4 ball. |
Chris Perry![]() Handicap : 23 Location : ![]() Posts : | Reply : Tue 20th May 2008 22:37 Sorry Col, you're too close to Tiger to play with us! Good ideas though. I think stableford is a good format for high handicappers as we generally have high handicaps due to inconsistency. Stableford allows you to have a really bad hole without wrecking your entire card. Plus, with so many of us happy hackers going round, picking up once you know you can't score may keep the time down to a reasonable level. |
Lee Miller![]() Handicap : 25.8 Location : ![]() Posts : | Reply : Tue 20th May 2008 23:12 Thats a good point Chris. Nothing like scoring a 9 on the 3rd hole to ruin the rest of your round. A Stableford would speed things up too. Have you bro in law and his mate registered yet as the comp is filling up and I dont wanna go past 20 really? |
Tim Begley![]() Handicap : 28 Location : ![]() Posts : | Reply : Wed 21st May 2008 10:36 Pencil me in mate, I'll let you know in a couple of weeks, I've just got to sound the missus out as I'm in Portugal on a Stag weekend the weekend before... |

Chris Perry![]() Handicap : 23 Location : ![]() Posts : | Reply : Mon 30th Jun 2008 11:14 Thanks John. One of those games where nothing was outstanding but nothing was paticularly bad. I can just imagine the look on on your face if two 28 handicappers came in with 40+ points at a medal I'd be pretty sceptical too and was surprised to score that well. |

Andy Edwards![]() Handicap : 28 Location : ![]() Posts : | Reply : Tue 1st Jul 2008 12:36 Lee You put the scores onto the wrong scorecard at Tamworth, you need to use the bottom option at tamworth the one you've used is incorrectly enterred. It should be Par 73, SSS 69 yds 6261 off Yellow Thats why some of the scores and points are incorrect.
