1" LONGER DRIVER - MORE YARDS?

Posted by: user571595 | Fri 21st Feb 2014 10:31 | Last Reply

COULD I GAIN TEN YARDS BY USING A 1" LONGER DRIVER?

Possibly if you are a skilled player, but as club length increases accuracy diminishes. What's the point of being 10 yards deeper into the trees? It is much easier to increase driving distance via better technique. If however you are a compulsive equipment twiddler, then here is how to legally fine tune your driver and possibly (I emphasise 'possibly') gain those extra yards without losing accuracy:

Add five grammes of sticky back golfer's lead tape to the back centre of your driver head. You may feel the increased weight on take away, but not on the down swing.

I have personally reduced the length of my competition drivers by 1.50," and increased head weight by ten grammes with no distance loss and greater accuracy. What a successful formula amounts to varies between players. At the end of the day accuracy is key.

(I don't discuss / debate. Please feel free to shred amongst yourselves).
